Catholic Insider #75

Airplane Sunset

A beautiful sunset photographed during my flight to Rome

After hours of tweaking the network settings on my laptop, I have finally been able to get online! So here is the first episode of my new adventures in Rome and in the Vatican. Enjoy!

In this episode of the Catholic Insider, I take you with me on a new trip to the Eternal City: Rome. Exactly one year after the election of pope Benedict XVI, I am back in the Vatican.

I stay at the Marianist community in Rome. You can see some pictures on the website of brother Patrick

  1. I’m downloading and will be listening it on my way back home this night :D
What a joy to have back the soundsighting tours from Rome! ^^

    Thanks Fr. Roderick!

  2. I downloaded it, just fyi the date coming over on iTunes is 2/18/06…not 4/18/06.

  3. Fr. Roderick, THIS is when you are at your best.

The ITALIANS singing on the flight to Rome is just absolutely priceless!

    You have made my day.

Italy, here I come in 2007!

  4. Fr. Roderick - How could you never have seen, made or prayed an all twine knotted rosary before? Wow, you even know Greg and Jennifer and have never seen one. I can’t believe it! Anyways, I enjoyed the show, especially the singing Italians. Enjoy Rome!

  5. I haven’t heard the show yet, but your teaser photo here on SQPN looks heavenly!

  6. Hard to believe that I can quibble with audio sent across perhaps 5000 miles to my ears, but it seemed like there might have been some garbled or corrupted audio in the file I got.

  7. Your show today was recorded partially on a plane, and so was Adam Curry’s!
Well, anyway, I loved the show. Are there more pictures you can show us?

    G

  8. @Jean: It’s true, I never saw a twine knotted rosary for real before. But brother Patrick gave me one that he made himself on Monday, and some twine to practice with, so now I’ve seen them, I’m starting to make them, I have prayed one, and I will give them away as well :)

  9. Small world story: my wife is an avid listener to CI and DB and mentioned that you were talking to a Marianist Bro. Patrick in Rome who mentioned Dayton and Cleveland. Turns out that I know Bro. Patrick from our involvement in Marianist LIFE, a program centered around high school youth. It was great to hear him and to know that you are experiencing the Marianist hospitality. Enjoy your stay!

  10. Fr. Roderick -

Mwah hah hah! Another Rosary making addict in the making! :)
Perhaps I’ll need to drop some twine in the mail this week for the Netherlands…

  11. Thanks for posting them, Father!

Glad to see you’ve been introduced to twine, as well!! ;)

  12. Dear Fr. Roderick,

I’m actually listening to the beginning of the show where you’re on the train near Antwerp. My fiancee is from Antwerp, and we’re getting married in the Cathedral there in July, and I’ve spent many trips in the train station. Wonderful to hear that it made a guest appearance in your “Rome” podcast!

    God’s blessings on your trip!

    –Bill

  13. Father R,

Fantastic to hear CI again when I believe you are at your best. You make aspects of Rome that few casual visitors get to see so wonderfully available for us all to enjoy.

And you reawaken the “catholic inside”.

    Thanks

    Graham
