Daily Breakfast #119

Nintendo’s Wii puts the emphasis on fun and gameplay
In today’s show: the Bird Flu Menace; Snakes during Mass; What to do with poisoned consacrated wine; what is the meaning of the white banner with the red cross that you see in some pictures of the resurrection? Social networking and next generation games; Hide and Seek on the Nintendo Wii; Second Life and 24.

Dear Fr. Roderick,
Thanks for another show. When you first mentioned about the very important meeting with the vicar of the archdiocese during the show, I thought the situation of your April Fool’s joke was coming true (not again!). I was really relieved and glad that the vicar of your archdiocese is extremely supportive for your media initiatives. I thanked the Lord very much for this, and I will keep praying for you. I’m sure you’ll do great things for the Church and I’m happy that your archbishop and his vicar know about it.
Just one question for you, Fr. Roderick. You talked about The Second Life yesterday and today. Do you think if there’s any opportunity for evangelisation in that virtual world? Thanks and have a great day/night.
Sincerely
Jack
Jack,
I do believe that Second Life represents an interesting opportunity to experient with online evangelization and, in fact, I’ve started to do that myself.
Rather than reiterate what I’ve already written, I’d invite you to read my two blog posts commenting on Daily Breakfast #118 (Father Roderick referenced them in today’s Daily Breakfast).

One type of game which would be perfect for the Nintendo Wii is of course a Star Wars lightsaber game. Here is a “Jedi-Wii” online petition I recently came across:
http://www.petitiononline.com/jedi_wii/
And talking of lightsabers…there is a software software called “MacSaber”, which uses the sudden motion sensor built into various Apple laptops to simulate the sounds of a lightsaber.

Of course if you are afraid of damaging your hardware or losing the data on your harddisk, you should avoid using this…
Hello… Once again, I like the explanations you give about all things “peculiar”. One thing, however. You mentioned the sacrarium, but you did not mention that it is a special “sink” which has a drain that goes directly into the ground and not into the sewer.
Also, did you hear the Vatical Live-105 when they had Gerald O’Collins on to talk about the DaVinci code? It was the May 16th show, I believe. They also had Amy Wellborn, who wrote a book about the myths and realities of Mary Magdelan. An excellent show with lots of good solid theology!
Hello Fr. Roderick…
I noticed that the Amsterdam Admirals will be playing in the World Bowl this weekend. I was wondering what the general opinion of American Football is in Europe and specifically the Netherlands. Do you yourself follow the Admirals at all?
Maybe you could answer this in an upcoming episode…
Thanks
Hello Fr. Roderick,
great news from the G. V.! After your “spring break” it must have been very encouraging to receive support for rearranging your priorities a bit.
Michael had a great comment that non-Catholics and perhaps even many Catholics may not be aware. Sacraments (Sacramentals?) are returned to the earth - to creation - and not desecrated in any way by entering a sewer system.
I am so happy to have the Daily Breakfast on my commute. Keep up the great work.
Peace and all good,
Randy
GREAT NEWS !
It was just announced today that the Pray as you Go podcast, which had originally been established for the Lenten season and was later extended for the full Easter season, will be continuing indefinitely.
If you haven’t already checked it out (Fr. Roderick spoke about it during Lent), check it out at iTunes, Podcast Alley, or at:

Hi Father, I just checked out your photos. You have some very nice shots. You have a good eye and photographed some great subjects. The shots out the plane are awesome! What camera do you have? You are truly blessed with your many talents.
Thanks for sharing.
