You cannot imagine my surprise when I saw the catholic insider downloading with "Sittard" in the title!!! You made an absolute awesome video of the carnaval! You even showed one of the big cars that I worked on!! :)Hope you had a great time in Sittard! It actually is a great place to visit for one of your soundseeing tours, because we have so many churches and so much history here! I could be your tourguide! Here in south Germany we have a very long carnival tradition but we call it FASNET season and it's quite different from the big parades in Cologne, Mainz etc. Here you wear very old (wooden) masks, costumes etc. Some Fasnet guilds have very long ropes with a nylon ribbon at the end (KARBATSCHE). It's very hard to explain what they do with it. They move the bullwhip-like rope first in one direction and then they quickly turn their body and move the rope to the other direction. If you do that fast enough the nylon ribbon breaks the sonic barrier and produces a big bang. Now you do that for a minute or so and you're totally exhausted...
