  1. AWESOME!!!

  2. hey Fr. Roderick, i just love it, awsome idea, i am going to join your quest for losing few extra pounds

  3. I think you should take away the “itpc” from the feed in itunes, unless it won’t work for me. Looking forward to this podcast!

  4. Also healthycatholic.com doesn’t seem to work. I liked the podcast very much. You should consider buying nike+ shoes with a built in sensor, which tracks how much you run. I will get my pair next month, anyone up for a competetion?

  5. I think I will also join your ambition to loose some pounds. Thanks for a great videocast!

  6. @Viking: we’re working on the domain name, stay tuned.

  7. The priest does it again! Great production.

  8. Very nice job Father R…. Since it is also “Catholic” as you mentioned in the beginning, I wanted to share an old story with you.

I had a Moral Theology professor who used to tell us that he believed it to be “immoral” to smoke… Of course, at the time, I smoked so I dismissed him as being a bit too liberal for me. Well, as time has gone by I’ve begun to realize the connection between my physical and spiritual health. I quit smoking long before this realization, but I now truly believe that this priest was correct. There IS a connection, as you have pointed out, between the two (physical and spiritual). I am a Temple of the Holy Spirit and I have an obligation to “try” to be healthy.

  9. Great show, Fr Roderick! I loved it. I liked the little touches too, like you wearing the SQPN T-shirt in the bathroom. By the way, was really that your bathroom that we saw? You have a cool hi-tech weighing scale. Anyway, just wanted to say again that I really enjoyed this show and can’t wait for the next episode to be out. God bless!

  10. Nice job, Father. I need to lose 11 lbs in 6 weeks! Thanks for the info and for motivating us to be Healthy Catholics.

  11. Awesome job! But why, oh why, are you still struggling with iMovie? Final Cut Express HD is a vastly superior video editing program and only costs $299. It might even solve your crashing problems as well?

  12. Father, you are a brave man, not just for trying to get rid of the extra weight, but for sharing such personal info (weight and BMI). I suppose this is only an issue for women.
Congrats on the video, and good luck on your quest.

  13. Bummer. The iTunes version quit working after less than 3 minutes… :-(

  14. Lent has started, and that is were I usually succeed in reaching my “weight goals” only to loose them by next Lent. I am ‘fired up’ about doing it with others and maybe keeping it off year round I need to loose about 7LBs, Not much but Still it is enough to go after.

  15. ….what a great new show - i just love the “post modern” production style.

I would encourage you to dedicate an episode to the topic of “hiking”.

Isn’t hiking a perfect combination to get in shape in a physical as well as spiritual way ?

The supreme hiking discipline - and obviously also a perfect “to do” for the period of lent - is obviously pilgrimage.

Keep up the great work !

  16. The other day I already posted this link to the DB blog.

    feed://www.domradio.com/audio/podcast/video/fastenimpuls/fastenimpuls.xml

-> this Video-podcast by a Capuchin friar might also be a great source of inspiration for your new HC shows.

  17. Father Roderick
    I want to join too!
I have 85 pounds to lose.
    Thank you for motovating me!
    Kind Regards,
    Catherine

  18. Great show! Do I dare join in on the challenge to lose weight? You can probably also mention kickboxing cardio. You lose a lot of pounds quickly! :)

  19. Congratulations for launching this new podcast!

Maybe you could also include “mindful eating” and “portion control” in your future podcasts. I think the epidemic of obesity worldwide is largely due to people’s behavior of stuffing things in their mouth without thinking of what it will do to their body and of not knowing if the hunger they feel is physiological. It could actually be emotional, perhaps even spiritual.

  20. This is wonderful! I never saw this coming, but I’m so glad to watch this new addition to the SQPN line-up.

I just began a new diet and exercise scheme two days ago, and your timing couldn’t have been more perfect.

I feel more motivated to keep it up now, knowing that I’m in such great company.

God bless you Father, for all of these creative ideas that you have, and the ability to bring them to fruition.

  21. @ Laurens:
I don’t know, if you still are experiencing problems with this in iTunes. Everything worked fine for me, yesterday. I do understand though, what your problems are: two weeks ago I had similar problems with an episode of the Daily Breakfast. After unsubscribing and resubscribing everything was fine again. Maybe, deleting the episode and refreshing the feed is an option, too? I am not sure about that. It looks as if iTunes sometimes ends up receiving incomplete files from libsyn.com. At least, these are my two cents about the issue.

  22. What an awesome show. We really loved it and our family was crowded around my laptop to get a glance on your scales.
We can’t wait to check the healthy catholic website and hope it will be running soon.

  23. Bravo!

I will join you at your quest. Perfect timing - spring is coming and weather allows us to go out, to get moving and thus loose wight healthy.

  24. I too am having problems downloading this using iTunes. I’m having the same problem with Catholic Minute #8. Audio podcasts work fine but with video it will download the file then just hang without ever completing. I tried resubscribing etc with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  25. Cool vcast! I did the bmi and fall in right where I belong, but I’ll follow along anyway. I like the idea, more people need to get this balance of body and soul. Keep up the great work.

  26. Hi! Just like to let everybody know what I learned from a well-known endocrinologist here in the Philippines sometime last year…

For Filipinos (like me), the BMI is a bit too high compared with Caucasians and that if we follow the “Caucasian” BMI categories most Asians of Malay/Chinese ethnic origins will still be considered normal. This is because of the body-build that we have (smaller than Caucasians).
The solution here is to deduct 10% from the “Caucasian” BMI. So if you’re either a Chinese, Filipino, Malaysian, Thailander, Indonesian or any of the related Malay/Chinese race, don’t use the “normal” BMI that we usually see in the internet…
    This means: Underweight - less than 17. Normal - 17-22.9. Overweight - 23-26.9 and Obese - more than 27….

  27. wow.. i just checked my BMI out of curiosity on http://games.voedingscentrum.nl/body_mass_index/body_mass.html after i have seen this movie and guess what? the standard numbers before you can change them were exactly mine! (68 kg and 185 cm) that’s a BMI of exactly 20.. well guess i cant join you in your quest father, but you have my prayers!

  28. Wonderful, Father. I will be trying this challenge too.

I think I understand the Vodeings Centrum website, though my Dutch is not great! How did you work out how long 1% will take (presumably the 1% gets smaller each week)?

  29. To make things simpler, I just use 1% of 82 kg/180 lbs a week as a target amount to lose.

I do a warming-up for 10 minutes, and a run/walk for 30 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and some indoor fitness exercises on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for about 30 minutes.

And I reduced the food/sugar/snacks intake to eat a ‘normal’ amount of calories each day.

  30. Thanks, Father. That’s helpful. :)

  31. Fr Roderick, you’re truly awesome. I need to lose some weight too. Will follow your lead.
