The third episode of Healthy Catholic talks about running and building up muscle strength. We also look at the results after one full week of exercise: how much weight did I lose?
In my opinion it is important to messure your weight always on the same time, because in the morning you are ligther, than f.e. just after a meal. Your weight vary between 2 kg during the day.
Oh, and once I heard, that is is better to run and train short but intensive, because your body produce then more fatty acid into your blood, that will be abolish during the night or time between the training.
When I will find the link about this topic, I will post it here.
Another great show! Good work on reaching your goal so far! I failed miserably because I can’t get up in the morning (I can’t do my cardio at night due to other committment) but I am trying harder each day. I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again.
However, I have to point out a tiny error in your video podcast. I believe you said that you can workout your muscles everyday. Not exactly. If you work on your biceps on, say, Monday, you shouldn’t work them again on Tuesday. You can, however, workout a different bodypart on Tuesday. Like legs for instance.
So, yes, you were right that you can workout everyday, just not the same muscles or else you will risk overtraining them and they will actually break down (shrink) instead of growing.
What happened to healthycatholic.com? Is that still in the works?
Try good ‘ol fashioned push-ups farther. It will not only build up your arm muscles but also your the “core” of your body which supports everything you need to run.
Hi Fr. Roderick,
I agree with Dany in that you can’t strength train everyday. In fact I’ve heard that you can do cardio everyday because your heart recovers faster, but you should not strength train everyday unless you are doing completely different muscle groups. Great show as always, keep it up. I’ll be sad at the end of your 14 week program, but I’m sure you’ll think of something to keep it going.
Good job Fr. Roderick, keep up the good work!

Tee-hee ;-}
“how much weight did I loose” should be “lose”
OR
“how loose are my pants now!’
Peace today!
This show is getting better and better……
I don’t know how much you are into that but I’d also like to know more about meditation & yoga.
Can’t wait for the episodes to come !!
Thanks Father. Your shows are keeping me on track!

You Go Fr. Roderick!
You’ll get those 25 lbs off in no time.
I’m working right along with you…I also have 25 lbs to shed.

healthycatholic.com is indeed still in the works, I’ll let you know when it’s online.
I really enjoyed how you intertwined Biblical passages (great choice of verses BTW) in between the segments.
Keep up the great work, Father
What would be great to do is to make a Catholic rockers show you can use in your work out with some up-beat music. Just an idea
