  1. I can’t even wait till the end of the show to comment, the listener who railed in you for liking Enterprise only to say that Janeway was the best captain? Hello? Janeway was the WORST SF Captain EVER! They made her Admiral just so she could not screw up on a ship anymore! LOL I think she failed all her courses on the Prime Directive in the Academy heh

TNG and DS9 are the best of the modern Treks (not counting TOS because that is on it’s own and no way to compare the two)

  2. Hello DB listeners - here’s a quick link to the artist websites:

    Al Stravinsky: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pageartist.cfm?bandID=399080

    Ariaphonics: http://www.ariaphonics.com/

    Jennifer Richman: http://www.jenniferrichman.com/

Thanks Father Roderick for playing my segment!

  3. Father, just want you to know, you are now *forcing* all us iPod VIDEO devotees to go out and buy one of these:

    How *kewl* will this be!

  4. Hi Father,

The first comment from my wife regarding the stabat matter was created on linux using a little dinky headset calling you using the gizmo-project. Eh I learned my lesson, I wont be using linux to leave audio comments again :)

  5. Hi Father Roderick,

I see you have implemented a new “direct listen” feature on the SQPN main page. Unfortunately direct downloading using right mouse click - save taget as… doesn’t seem to work anymore. Since I often download the show when I’m at the University the “back-to-the-roots-right-mouse-click-and-save-it
-feature” was quite useful to me and I now have to do it at home because installation of external programs like iTunes etc. is not allowed at the public PCs.
Is there a way to bring the direct link back to the page? Thanks in advance! God bless

  6. Hi Father Roderick,

I just wanted to chime in on the whole Star Trek debate. Firstly, about music, I enjoyed the First Contact soundtrack, but my favourite film, and soundtrack, remains Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

Regarding Enterprise, I hated the music; it was awful! I wasn’t very fond on the series either, because although we could get more details about that period in the Star Trek history, it was closed, by definition, in terms of the development of overall plot arcs. I mean, we can see more details, but this history is, relatively speaking, already set–unlike, say, Voyager, or DS9.

    Anyway, just my 2 cents.

About the MP3 link–I would second this. There are times where iTunes messes up and I need to download things manually because they’re not listed in the XML feed. So, please can you bring back the link for direct-downloading.

    Thanks,
    Mark

  7. Guess I’ll throw down on the Star Trek argument, too.

I quickly lost interest in the “Lost in Space”, er, “Voyager” series. Most of the crew were so annoying and self-involved that even a good captain (a group that does not include Janeway) would have had trouble running an effective 7-11 with them, much less a multi-year crisis. Picardo’s ‘Doctor’ was the only interesting character in the lot - which says something about the rest.

They did have a great opening theme, though. ;-)
And if you want songs in Latin, “Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi” is top-10 material.

  8. Way to go “Music Man” Colin! I liked that it was just bits of the songs to keep it brief. I hope Colin becomes a weekly feature to the DB.

  9. By the way, the official web site for the cause of the canonization of Archbishop Sheen can be found here:

Hmmm. Perhaps I should send this info to Dr. Paul, too.

  10. Hi Fr. Roderick,

Have you heard of Joost? I’m sure you have if you’ve listened to the DSC recently. Not as much content as TVU, but nowhere near as many ads and it’s 100% legal (I still doubt that TVU is sanctioned by the US cable companies).
    http://joost.com/

I’ve been in the Joost beta for a few months now, and I’ve got a spare beta invite if you’re interested :)

  11. Hi Andrew, I have followed the Joost developments closely, but haven’t been able to check it out because I didn’t have a beta invite… soooo……. you know my email address ;)

  12. Father,

yesterday I bought the new DVD-edition of “Blade Runner” (directors cut).

Just wondered how you like this movie, since you are a big Science Fiction fan…..

I have heard so many enthusicastic revies about this movie, that I always wanted to by the DVD myself. However, it simply wasn’t available on the market until now.

    Can’t wait to ckeck it out ! ;-) ;-)

  13. Hi Father,

I wasn’t sure if the dailybreakfast@sqpn.com email address was the best place to send it - and I wish you’d emailed me directly, if I hadn’t remembered to check this page I would’ve missed your request :)

  14. Star Trek comment… my favorite character is and always has been Geordi La Forge… so much so that I went into aerospace engineering as my degree. Of course this crush was probably doubled by Levar Burton’s work on ‘Reading Rainbow’… a public television series in the States that I also watched growing up along with Star Trek.

I didn’t mind Voyager, btw… they had a female chief engineer ;) And french horns in the theme song…

  15. Colin, you are THE MAN (the music man that is)!! Your segment and selections were totally awesome. I’m already looking forward to your next installment and I’m glad to see music back in the Daily Breakfast.

  16. Fr. Roderick,
I suspect that those of us who fast forwarded through the song will continue to do so with the new section… My vote is to keep it. Since it’s just once a week, those of us who don’t care for it won’t be put out too much and those who do like it will get their podsafe music fix; the Music Man’s voice it quite appealing and the format (I forced myself not to fast forward this one time) fits with what you are doing in the rest of the show.
    Just my 2ยข.
    Marnie

  17. I noticed that in episode #266, we once again had music as part of the podcast. In a previous comment I had already said that the music segments were my least favorite. Since I have an iPod Shuffle I do not have the option of being able to skip the music segment. I have to either wait it out or just skip to the end of the podcast. As I have other podcasts to listen to as well, I often do not get back to Daily Breakfast for that day. I realize that there are a lot of people who like the musical interlude, so what I would suggest is that on those days (Feedback Friday?) when there is to be a musical segment, you put it at the end, so that others like myself won’t miss the rest of the content.

  18. Re: music segment

I prefer the opening song. Having created and maintained a parish web site I understand the challenges in pleasing everyone. The Music Man segment is a reasonable and great “comprimise”. Colin left a good first impression. Feel free to place the music segment in the show time line anywhere you wish.

SQPN podcasters & volunteers, thank you for your time and commitment towards this ministry. For that reason I listen to the show in its entirety.

  19. Two things - Love the new music section - Colin has a great broadcasting voice with great taste in independant music.
-Data is by far the best and most original Star Trek character. I know androids and robots are a sci-fi staple. But the next Gen team made Data a multi-layered and complex character. I loved his story lines originally when I was an early teenager, and now as an adult have discovered a whole new level to his story. (How C.S. Lewis)
