In this episode of Catholic Minute, I share my thoughts about the current beta of ‘Joost’. Note that the download version of this video has some audio problems (only audio in the left channel).

  1. I was so excited when I got my invitation to join Joost (pronounced ‘Juiced’ - hard ‘J’), only to discover that you need a Mac with an Intel processor for it to work! I was totally bummed out. Your so-so review of it makes me feel a little bit better. Thanks.

  2. Looks interesting, but I’m in the same boat as Chris — good old PPC Powerbook.

  3. It’s betatastic too! On my iMac (highest spec 24″) it’s so slow it’s almost unusable! Like when I want to change channels the guide is really difficult to bring up and then when I click a button it takes a couple of seconds to respond. I agree about the quality but what do you expect for a free program that basically gives you free cable programming.

  4. Thanks for the info. Didn’t know it only worked on a MAC. Was actually hoping for an invitation as I have no TV at this time.

Not sure if anyone else had this problem, but the sound for this one came only out of my left speaker.

  5. Katerina, as far as Macs go, it only works on Intel based Macs but it does work on regular PCs. As I say in the blogpost, there are audio problems in the download version of the episode. The YouTube version is ok, because it is in mono.

  6. Have to agree here. The idea is ofcourse very nice, but so far, the quality is sub par. Also the programs offered aren’t very interesting yet. Of the entire list of channels only 2 or 3 looked remotely interesting.

  7. I haven’t been very impressed with Joost. I found one or two things that I thought I might want to watch, but the quality was poor and just not worth it with so many other sources of better video.

  8. I was going to try it but it’s by invitation only :(Fr. Roderick, do you mind send me an invitation to Joost Beta? Thanks a bunch!

  9. I’m sorry, but when I launch Joost on my PC, it tells me that I don’t have any invites to send out. No idea why. Perhaps because I wasn’t positive enough in my review? ;)
