Jennifer - “Shock the Monkey”? You just went up about ten points my coolness meter.
First, “Quantum Leap” and now “Shock the Monkey”. That’s great! Can’t wait for the new video podcast.
well THANK YOU Father! I actually Peter Gabriel in concert a few years back. He’s still a great performer even with some grey hair.
Just added That Catholic Show to iTunes. Can’t wait for the first show. (Something Catholics are known for? Hmm. I’m guessing big families…)
Jennifer:
Thank you for sharing that moment of anticipatory adoration with us. What you described inspired in me a profound expectant joy. Being a Catholic-Friend for the past two years, I have felt the urge to attend adoration, but after listening to your response I now pine for eucharistic adoration. I suppose one can participate in this during Mass, but the silent worship during adoration must be far more powerful.
I want to share something with you. You may have read this before, but it’s worth thinking about again. From Pope Benedict XVI’s “God Is Near Us”:
“Only within the breathing space of adoration can the eucharistic celebration indeed be alive; only if the church and thus the whole congregation is constantly imbued with the waiting presence of the Lord, and with our silent readiness to respond, can the invitation to come together bring us into the hospitality of Jesus Christ and of the Church, which is the precondition of the invitation.”
Thank you again so much for your words. When I enter the Church, I hope to never lose the love for Jesus that you have.
I tried to subscribe via iTunes to That Catholic Show but when I typed in the name of the show, it said it wasn’t there . . .
Susan,
iTunes will add it when the first episode is available, but you can manually subscribe by going to Advanced (on the menu) and selecting “Subscribe to podcast.” Then paste in the URL for the That Catholic Show feed, which is http://feeds.feedburner.com/ThatCatholicShow
Susan, you’re ahead of the curve again. You’re a woman ahead of your time.
Hi Greg,
Didn’t have time to listen to this all, but re Protestants not being able to receive communion, I have heard it always put rather that they cannot, under most circumstances, receive the Eucharist because they are not full members of the Catholic Church. Even if they believe in the Eucharist in the same way that Catholics do (as some Protestants do), Holy Communion is a sign of and required ecclesial communion.
Mark,
This comes from the “Catholic Answers” apologetic website: http://www.catholic.com
Other Christians and Communion
The guidelines for receiving Communion, which are issued by the U.S. bishops and published in many missalettes, explain, “We welcome our fellow Christians to this celebration of the Eucharist as our brothers and sisters. We pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit in this Eucharist will draw us closer to one another and begin to dispel the sad divisions which separate us. We pray that these will lessen and finally disappear, in keeping with Christ
Mark -
We were talking about two different things on this episode: Adoration and receiving the Eucharist. I encouraged people to go to Adoration (Catholic or not), but I think I was pretty clear about not receiving unless you were Catholic and disposed to receiving Communion (although I didn’t mention to be sure not to receive the Eucharist if in a state of mortal sin).
Apologies,
I think everyone’s picking me up wrong.
I meant I agree with you, but that a primary reason for Protestants not receiving communion was not just whether or not they believe in the Real Presence, but that also the communion we share in the Mass is an expression of ecclesial communion. Hence even those Anglicans, Lutherans, or whatever Protestants who may believe every single thing Catholics do still cannot receive because there is no ecclesial communion.
I can’t believe Greg dissed William Shatner’s acting ability on Star Trek! I’m unsub…wait, maybe he wasn’t that great…
Seriously, I was watching Heroes for a while and I have to agree that the acting for the most part was pretty flat. Maybe they’ve grown into the roles since I stopped watching. The overall storyline is very interesting. Maybe I’ll rent it when it comes out on DVD.
Oh, yes,
@Greg: I’m a genius at forgetting my toothbrush, hairbrush, or nightgown on business trips. But the whole suitcase? Only did that once; my husband had to turn back when we were “only” 90 minutes from home….
