Fr. Roderick,
By the way half of all Catholics don’t live in Brazil. The Catholic population of Brazil is around 137,000 which is of course way short of the estimated 1.1 Billion Catholics worldwide.
Adding the populations of North and South America together you do get roughly half of the world’s population of Catholics.
This figure of half of the worlds Catholics in Brazil is a figure has appeared in much of the media coverage of the Pope’s trip so I guess the wrong figure has just spread.
Another misleading fact the media has suggested about the Pope’s trip is that there is a continuing loss of Catholics to Evangelical churches in Brazil. While for awhile this was true, the figures have stabilized a couple of years ago and in fact there is a slight increase on the Catholic side now.
By the way congrats on 300. I have listened to every podcast you have put out since you recorded Pope Benedict’s election.
Jeff, just to clarify your post. I think you left off 3 zeros are your estimte — the Catholic population of Brazil is 137,000,000 (137 Million). The total population of Brazil, according to Wikipedia, is 168 Million.
Fr. Roderick,
During the show you mentioned that the ustream viewers were complaining about the volume. As a non-ustream podcast listener, I’d have to say that this is the one thing that I’d love to have improved. I listen to Daily Breakfast in my car during my commute and I often adjust the volume 4 or 5 times per show. Usually the audio feedback you play from other people is too soft and the jingles are then too loud. Maybe your pre-production team could help out with this? Or is it a possible improvement for CastBlaster? Thanks for all your great work!
Hi Fr. Roderick,
I’m an English professor and wanted to confirm what a listener suggested to you about using “so far” for the phrase “until now.” I am American, but was raised in Germany with a German mother, and in German the phrase is “bis jetzt.” I imagine it’s the same in Dutch. “So far” will do the job for you!
We love listening to you here in Alaska!
All the best,
Debi in Palmer, Alaska
Hi Fr. Roderick,
Always good to hear your opinions on gaming. As a fellow 360 owner, I would love to add you and other SQPN’ers to my friends list. I would imagine that others would like to do the same. Any suggestions on how to facilitate this exchange?
Keep up the good work and God bless!

@Jeff Miller:
The Population of Brazil is estimated to be 188.821.059 people today and just Just São Paulo metropolitan area has over 20 million people! According to Vatican site catholics are around 85% of the population in Brazil (but others sources claim the number to be less, around 75%). So of course you are totally right that half of catholics are in the whole of the Americas, not just Brazil.
In 2010 there will be the next official census in Brazil and we will know for sure…
God Bless!
