We’re watching HP on Friday night at the Premier Level, a high end section of a theater with assigned seats, love couches, and LOTS of legroom. Thanks for the plug, Father!
Movie Retreat?
It reminds me to a manual book titled “Finding God in The Dark”. This book is about taking The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola to the movies. There are set of movies on the list and put accordingly based on the dynamic of The Spiritual Exercises. There are questions and reflections in every movie.
The movies are very helpful for us to do our meditation/contemplation, and during reflection we try to find what God want to say to us through the movies which serve as images of our real world, our real lives.

your default email client will open up and send a blank email to the address you get and will get new clues, to resolving the mystery.
Rumors are flying from being new godzilla, to an evil god named cthulu to a remake of a japanese film called “The Host”
Definitely exciting trailer which i am very much looking forward to.
We went to the midnight show of The Order of the Phoenix last night, and let me tell you, I am dragging today because I had to be at work at 7:15 am, and didn’t get home until 3, so I’m operating on 3 hours of sleep.
Was it worth it? You bet!
This is by far the darkest, most sinister movie yet, but also so full of visual treats and fabulous use of imagery and light to convey meaning, that I think, Fr. Roderick, you will be taking notes in the dark again. It contains a wonderful balance of good and evil, and we really glimpse inside (literally) of Harry’s head to see how these opposing forces are pulling at him. I am astounded that there are people who actually think that Harry could be pulled to the evil side. It reminded me of Luke Skywalker’s almost seduction to the Dark Side, and of course, how Satan attempted/dared to try and seduce Jesus. Somehow, the visual of this scene is more powerful than the book, which is astounding to me because normally I respond better to the written word.
The final battle is full of images of darkness and light, fire and water, and it was just AWESOME!
I hope you have an opportunity to see it in 3-D.
Maria
I figured out the code to the ball, you have to click the pieces in the same order as it pushes them up, and then you get a message and a new code to crack, working on cracking that code now, so drop me a line if you get stuck!! I love this stuff thanks Fr Roderick!
Hi Father Roderick, I was disappointed to hear what that person wrote to you. I can’t believe it! There are always people criticising and not proclaiming the gospel like you.You have given so much of your energy and enthusiasm in your podcasts and I really felt how hurt you were at what you read out. It is not for them to criticise. You are giving us a present in knocking yourself out to do this for us. If you don’t like one segment, then there is always another and you take what comes. Part of the excitement of what you produce. It’s hard not to let it get you down and you MUSTN’T! I think you are an example to all priests and you must be careful of burnout.Father Bill did well but he wasn’t you,and said himself he couldn’t come up to your standard- and you do it EVERY DAY!!! as well. May the Lord Jesus bless you and keep you and turn away the criticism. It is not valid for most of us. An intelligent person would KNOW why you wanted us to vote in those podcasts, since you explained very clearly. The need was to get others to listen and for heaven’s sake, we pay nothing for your products and it is the least WE can do to spread the Good News, rather than not using the opportunity to do so and let unsuitable podcasts win because we haven’t bothered!WE LOVE YOU FATHER RODERICK! KEEP PODCASTING! Hoch soll er leben!xxx
Thanks for talking about the Tridentine mass. For those of you born after Vatican II, if you’re curious about the text of the mass, here’s a website that has all the text of the mass. It makes for very interesting reading: http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/basis/latinmass2.html
Father R. You gave a very well balanced and EXCELLENT explanation of the Tridentine Mass!!
I personally don’t want to back to that time. I feel as though if someone wants to do that, then they should be allowed to do so. However, I get pretty tired of reading how the Novus Ordo is an abomination and how the bishops who prefer it (e.g. Mahoney, O’Malley etc) are too liberal etc. It is, as you rightfully said, more faithful to the original Eucharistic celebrations of the past. The Tridentine Mass is too full of “trappings” and I feel that I am a bystander rather than a participant. Others may not feel that way, and I respect that.
I also applaud your explanation of the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Keep in mind that the H.S. works on “God” time, not human time and if we see something we don’t like, we can trust the Spirit to “fix” it, but that may take hundreds of years.
The Second Vatican Council was a defining moment and we have to trust the Spirit!!
In closing I would quote St. Augustine:
If then you wish to understand the body of Christ, listen to what St. Paul is telling us: “Now you are the body of Christ and His members” (1 Cor 12:27). If therefore you are the body of Christ and His members, your own participation in this mystery is set on the table of the Lord; you receive back in Communion the mystery you are part of. …
So, I’m a bit late, but just listened to Ray’s “feedback.” Maybe he got up on the wrong side of the bed? Fr. Roderick, I love SQPN and the Daily Breakfast. You are with me on my journey throughout the day. I think what helps you connect to your audience is the sometimes “mundane” daily discoveries like the blender. Hey, I’ve asked my wife to help me whip up a smoothie! You can’t be all things to all people, so just be yourself. Discouragement is certainly a trick that the devil can use on us, so just let it go. Sometimes I’m in awe when I think about how God is blessing the efforts of all the SQPN Podcasters. That’s what you need to remember. God Bless and keep up the EXCELLENT work!
Kevin
At ethanhaaswasright.com the puzzles keep getter harder and harder. I’m at puzzle 4 and it’s really difficult to get the green balls in the right place.
What is the proper Catholic response to insult?
Can you forgive but still not reconcile with a person?
Father, I was *happy* in your mention of France, that you mentioned *some* of the political issues regarding the Tridentine Mass use by not only a Roman Catholic schismatic sect but also a politically schimatic sect, the SSPX.
*Pretty good* information found @ Wikipedia esp. regarding the current political issues involving the SSPX and French politics:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Society_of_St._Pius_X
[Good resources and links found here for further information...]
It’s helpful for U.S. Catholics to understand these long-term political issues!
Again, thanks Fr. Roderick, for that European perspective!
I was just laughing at seeing again that ridiculous anonymous critic’s sentence that said:
“Now, go on Greg delete it, you blind helper of Roderick the Wizard.””
hmmmmm… well I don’t want Fr. Rod to get a swelled head but part of the reason I tuned into Catholic Insider originally then Daily Breakfast was a lot of curiousity to see what Fr. Rodericks latest podcast audio “wizardry” was. But now I’m absolutely astonished that Greg is “blind”. I never knew this and I don’t know how Greg can possibly do all he does in SQPN when he has that to deal with.
Greg has a bionic eye. If you join us for the meet and greet in Conyers on Monday, you’ll get to see it for yourself.
On a diiferent note, I am curious to know what fr. Roderick has to say about HP!
Father
I NOTICED AT THE END WITH THE QUOTE THAT RAY IS TRYING TO CUSTOM TAILOR THE SHOW FOR HIM. THEN THAT IS YOUR RECIPE FOR FAILURE, FOR AS OF NOW YOU KEEP A BROAD AUDIENCE AND NOT EVERYONE LIKES TO HEAR YOU TALK ABOUT STAR TREK OR SMOOTHIES BUT THEY HAVE A SKIP BUTTON!!
YOU WILL LOSE MORE LISTENERS IF YOU TRY TO PLEASE EVERYONE. OR TO PLEASE EVEREYONE YOU COULD DO LIKE 10000 SHOWS EVERYONE MADE TAILOR FIT… BUT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!
I DO AGREE WITH TRYING A COHOST, AT LEAST SOMETIMES.
YOU SHOULD TRY IT WITH FR BILL WHEN YOU BOTH ARE TOGETHER IN GEORGIA
THANKS
Kenneth
Father, I’m sure you know this, but the person who told you about the Movie Retreat, Father Greg Friedman, has his own podcast too. Actually it’s more like a radio program that is also available as a podcast. It’s called “American Catholic Radio” and you can download it here:
http://www.franciscanradio.org/americancatholicradio.asp
I listen to Father Greg every Monday morning and was happy to hear that he listens to your show too! It’’s like one big family.
As for the negative comments: don’t let them get you down. I was reading an article about a cooking website — a forum for people to share recipes and cooking tips. And they had to hire someone to monitor the comments because there were so many insults and threats! Sad but true.
Keep up the great work Father. Your listeners (most of them anyway) appreciate what you.
Yours in Christ,
John
My children and I saw the trailer concerning Cloverleaf. As my 13 year old son was viewing the web site http://ethanhaaswasright.com/ he looked at the page source and found text there that was not visible on the site, check it out. jon lemay
Unfortunately the Ethan Haas thing has pretty much been confirmed as PR for an upcoming RPG game:
http://omgwtfehwr.blogspot.com/
Looks like JJ Abrams wasn’t lying when he denied any connection to cloverfield.
Oh and father, if you want some hints on the ethan haas website (the first puzzle is a memory game) then wikipedia has some info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethan_haas_was_right
I got to the 4th puzzle before I gave up
Hi father,
wouldn’t it be cool to add a “favicon” to the SQPN-Site ?
(-> favicons = one of these little icons you see in the browser just before the “http://www….” command line…… Twitter for instance has this blue “T” favicon)
This might be a nice way to further strengthen the SQPN brand.
Maybe you could use the SQPN-star as favicon.
Or how about one of those cool little icons that people put on their blogs or web site? They’re a nice, subtle way to gain some recognition, and whoever clicks the link discovers SQPN.
What really needs to be done is more sensible URL’s instead of ?p=1569. This also increases your ranks on search engines.
I’m always disappointed when I hear discussions of the Tridentine Mass. I do remember that Mass, and contrary to what many who did not grow up with it think, we DID understand what was going on on the altar. All of the gestures, the bells, the movements, the music, the position of the priest on the altar all were signals to us what was happening. And remember, after attending Mass at least once a week with a side-by-side Missal, you did get to know the Latin as well. It was rich with meaning, and centuries of growth and Tradition (it was my understanding that both Scripture and Tradition were the foundations of the Faith. Has that changed??). It was beautiful and reverent. Say what you will, having dancing girls and rock bands, people all over the altar, pop music, slide shows, and a bunch of other innovations may be modern, but they’re really not more reverent. If we think about what’s supposed to be taking place on the altar – the re-enactment of *Calvary,* not a family “meal,” we might think twice about the celebratory aspects of the NO mass. I think many people would (will) be suprised that given a real choice, there might be if not an overall preference, then a healthy return to the Tridentine Mass. I know the traditional Mass I attend is mostly young families and teenaged kids.
As a completely selfish aside, the Latin I learned by simply attending Mass (I wasn’t an altar boy or anything)enabled me to develop a good vocabulary, and understand the foundations of many languages and words – another great loss to young people today.
I am a seminarian that wants the Church to end the Novus Ordo and return to the holiness of the Tridentine Rite. I don’t care if a person joins the FSSP or SSPX. We need the Tridentine Rite and the end of the Novus Ordo, with its poor translations and lack of reverence (such as fewer genuflections, etc). All sacraments are lacking in the New Rite of Mass.
