I think something is wrong with the audio. I can hear a choral piece (sounds like clips of Divine Liturgy), but no talking. I hope the audio gets fixed soon. I’m excited to hear this episode since I’m a Ukrainian Greek Catholic.
Please keep this episode… The music is angelic!!! But i would also like hear your regular podcast…
The first upload lost the audio track, I’m not sure what happened but it seems to be working now.
Just listened to the episode–great introduction to the Orthodox faith in Ukraine and Russia.
One interesting thing to note–there is dispute among Ukrainians and Russians about whether or not the roots of Kyivan-Rus are the roots of Russia as well as Ukraine. Most of Russia says “Da.” Most of Ukraine says “Ni.”
The Russians have a saying, “Moscow is the head of Russia, St. Petersburg is the heart and Kyiv is its mother.” I don’t have a nifty saying from the Ukrainians, but I can paraphrase the sentiment: “Go find your own noble roots; Kyivan-Rus is ours.” Of course, I am biased being a Ukrainian Greek Catholic.
P.S. If you are wondering why I kept writing Kyiv instead of Kiev, it’s because Kyiv is a transliteration of the Ukrainian name, Kiev is a transliteration of the Russian.
