Three Podcast Awards for SQPN shows!
The Star Quest Production Network is proud to announce that three SQPN shows have won in various categories of this year’s People’s Choice Podcast Awards!
The Daily Breakfast, a morning show hosted by Fr. Roderick Vonhögen, won the award for best religious podcast;
Praystation Portable, daily prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours formatted to be used on mobile phones or other mobile devices and hosted by Jeff Vista, won the award for best Mobile Phone Formatted podcast;
Catholic Rockers, a podcast higlighting new Catholic popular music, hosted by George Leite, won the award for Best Podsafe Music podcast.
It is the third consecutive year that SQPN shows win Podcast Awards. In 2005, the Catholic Insider won the award for best religious podcast; in 2006, the Daily Breakfast, Catholic Insider and the Rosary Army podcast won awards. This year, SQPN also stimulated people to vote for Steve Runner’s Phedippidations podcast. Steve is a longtime SQPN listener and friend of the network. Phedippidations is the winner of this year’s award in the Sports category.
The awards will be officially presented to the winners during the Podcast and New Media Expo from 28-30 September in Ontario, California.

Congratulations. I was pleasantly surprised to see Daily Breakfast there. I know you were pushing for the Catholic Insider vote to avoid the split but I think Daily Breakfast earned the award. It truly is the flagship production at this point.
Congratulations to all at SQPN! All 3 awards are well deserved. I also voted for the Daily Breakfast in the Religion Inspiration category, but don’t count the Catholic Insider out yet - it’s still alive in the People’s Choice category!

I think that in addition to excellent production, the frequency with which these shows are posted help in making them essential in our lives. Although Catholic Insider is my favorite podcast, I voted for Daily Breakfast simply because it is a (nearly) daily staple in my life.
I hope than next year SQPN wins more awards and that in the next twelve months more people that are inspired and uplifted by what you all do here become part of this family.

I am overjoyed at the award for all three of these incredibly deserving shows. All three of these podcasts have been very deserving of the award, and are mainstays on my iPod. PrayStation Portable is truly the best approach to praying the Liturgy of the Hours, allowing me to pause, meditate, (and not get lost) during the constant page-flippings… George Leite is THE quintessential music DJ out there, and his choices are inspiring and entertaining. He has performed an invaluable service to all us Catholic rockers (who are also Catholic rocker groupies). And Fr Roderick… your incredible enthusiasm and willingness to try every new thing allowed your Daily Breakfast to continue its reign, even against your requests to have Catholic Insider win. You are an example to us all.
Next year… Rosary Army for best Soap!

Congratulations to all at SQPN. Individual shows have won awards, and they deserve them, but the strong support from so many excellant shows increases overall popularity.

Once again the SQPN network is bearing fruits.
Just a few comments regarding the DB/CI surprise:
We could see this as a little wake-up call for the Catholic Insider.
Without any doubt, CI is still outstanding in terms of content and production quality. However, as the podcast awards showed, the show is really suffering from its lack of regularity.
As a die hard fan you simply need your regular fix (-> just think of “Lost”
or otherwise you start losing interest…
The “season approach” has not really worked for me: You never new, if CI was on- or off-season and when to expect the next show.
There were even times when too many (!) CI shows were put out in too little time and they were piling in the iPod.
How about trying out a *bi-weekly* CI format for the future ? This would surely propell it’s recognition to a new level.

Congratulations from my side as well! I also voted for the Daily Breakfast, but for a completely different reason: I was on holiday (where I had internet and was able to vote every day) and had not listen to the Daily Breakfast Show with Father Roderick’s suggestion, so I saw the CI for Peoples Choice and because of that voted for the DB at the Religion/Inspiration section…

I know that there were strategic reasons to vote for CI, but I voted my conscience, and that made it DB all the way.

WOW! I have enjoyed the Daily Breakfast and several other SQPN podcasts for a little over a year now. All the shows have excellent quality. I am very happy to be a listener and very happy for Father Roderick. Hopefully this will help lead to another great year for SQPN. Congrats and God bless.
