@Roland – Good looking out! I’m sure Fr. Roderick will look fantastic in his new Longhorn clothes!
@Father Roderick – I had to laugh – The Aggie colors are “maroon,” not purple. It’s a century-long school rivalry and both schools are in the Diocese of Austin.
@David Sweeney –
@Everyone – I hope you can join Fr. Roderick at the Written On Our Hearts conference in Austin on Oct 19-20. http://WrittenOnOurHearts.org
Hi Father Roderick,
We are very excited about your upcoming visit to Austin, TX! You definitely will see plenty of “Burnt Orange” UT T-shirts here. Hopefully you will have time to visit the campus.
Hook Em Horns!!

Hi Fr. Roderick!
I just love your shows, and usually I listen to them in the Morning, my time before we go to Morning Prayer or right after, that depends if I can get up on time (4:40am) and what mood I am in… But today, I connected my Ipod at lunch break and there was the new show, so I get two shows at the same time. That is soooo awesome!
Father let me say that you have a sweet Italian accent when you speak latin! I wonder what my Italian will be like when I move to Rome this fall…
All the best from our friary in Irondale, AL, US of A.

@ everyone- We’re so excited about the conference – it’s the first one of it’s kind around here!
Is it me? I cannot get I-Tunes to download this episode. I tried a direct download from the website and again, no dice…
I’m having the same problem trying to download thru itunes.
I can’t download either. I suspect it is because Libsyn is down.
I too cannot download from iTunes. Actually it’s been the last two episodes?! A couple of other podcasts are not downloading either. I even reinstalled iTunes hoping that would fix it, alas, it did not. Looks like I’ll have to grab the mp3’s and listen from there.
This is what Libsyn says:
DNS Misconfiguration
At about 2:30 EST on Thursday, Aug 23, there was a momentary DNS misconfiguration that caused some users to be unable to view the site, or in fact, resolve anything under the libsyn.com domain. The situation was recognized and resolved immediately, but due to the nature of the DNS system, some users have cached the incorrect data, either on their computer, or on the ISP DNS servers. As with everything DNS related, the caches will time out, and the correct data will be received, and we’ve been told the maximum time this will take is 24 hours. (It’s usually much shorter, however) In the meantime, a potential remedy for end users is a reboot of their computer to hopefully flush that local cache.
We apologize for any downtime.

Well, I haven’t downloaded yet, but I certainly will. You may have covered this topic in this show, but i wanted to comment on the Quakers and Amish. The only comparison is that they both come out of the Anabaptist tradition. The WikiPedia article on the Quakers mentioned that some have become non-Christian, but I believe that is a small minority. Quakers believe that we all have an inner light, which is the Holy Spirit. That inner light moves us to do what we are called to do. Quakers shy away from sacramentals of any kind and at their “meetings” they generally sit in silence until the Spirit moves them to speak. Quakers tend to be pacifistic and completely non-violent.
The Amish completely shun the “things” of the modern world. They do not have electricity, automobiles etc. They live, (like Quakers in a sense), a simple life. Their dress, their homes etc. There are different “levels” of Amish. Out of that German-Dutch tradtion have also come the Mennonitws, which are similar to Amish, but they have modern conveniences etc.
All these sects have some very positive things to offer us Catholics. Perhaps one of their greatest assets is their insistence on forgiveness. Last year a deranged man shot a number of Amish children in their school before killing himself. The Amish insisted on comforting his widow and telling her that they had forgiven her husband.
Finally, the “Quaker Oat Man” on the cover of the oatmeal box is a representation of what Quakers in early Pennsylvania looked like. Some say it is a picture of Barbara Bush, but that’s not true…
Finally listening to your review of The Simpsons Movie” today on the Feast of St. Bartholomew, my parish name.
