We visit Housesteads in Northumberland and we explore Hadrian’s Wall. This impressive wall once stretched the entire width of Great Britain and formed the northernmost frontier defence of Roman Britain.
Unbelieveable! I was just in Newcastle (Upon Tyne)and went on a quest (drove out on the “wrong” side of the road) to find Hadians wall! I think it was about 10 days ago (Sept 13). I have been to the UK before, in 1981 and about 3 years ago, but never had the time to “walk the wall”. Our friend who grew up in the area was very proud that he was born “north of the wall” and encouraged me to go. I found the two lane “B” road that runs thru the area and stopped at the Once Brewed Tourist center, just past Housesteads and bought a bottle of Hadrian’s water… It was a cool and windy, cloudy day which for me, being from Florida, was exactly what I had hoped for and my peak experience was walking alone except for the sheep in the fields, beside a piece of the wall. Perfect.
I am enjoying your new video series. In this video, I didn’t know about this particular wall, and how old it is. I am always amazed at how old structures are in Europe because everything in North America seems ‘new’. Thanks for a very engaging show
Isn’t this the wall that was used in part of the filming of Robin Hood (the one with Kevin Costner)? At one point early in the film, Costner is returning to his country with his ‘Moorish’ friend (Morgan Freeman). They are shown walking down and alongside this very wall, I believe… Way cool!

That is really cool looking! Walls have always been important to a country and it’s border
