  1. This is so sad!

It is terrible, when vandalism happens. It is a big problem, unfortunately here in Germany, too. Our diocese wants the churches to be open. But most of our churches are locked anyway. I am a member of our parish council and we are in a conflict. On the one hand, we want to follow our bishop’s wish and to open our two churches, on the other hand terrible vandalism has happened in other churches in the area and we don’t want want to loose our churches’ inventory.

Today, if a church is being renovated, the entry area often is being equipped with a bench for prayer, the rest of the church is being secured with removable bars, so you can enter and be inside of the church, but you are not able to do any damage to the interior like the tabernacle or statues. It is not perfect. As a matter of fact, it is very sad. But apparently, this is the only way to go in these times. Currently, we do not have those security measures. So our churches are only open during Sundays and holidays like Christmas or Easter. Of course apart from masses, that is.

Maybe some people from the SQPN community could post here some comments: how does your parish deal with issues like that? Are your churches being locked?

Fr. Bill - have a nice trip to Israel!

  2. Fr. Bill,

You and your parish are in my prayers. We recently had to deal with vandalism of the tabernacle at the Portiuncula in Steubenville and had to delay our regular perpetual adoration because of it. Still, as we get ready to celebrate Christ the King we remember that He will be victorious.
