I was an altar server right through to my twenties and really enjoyed it. I looked after younger alter servers and loved doing the Easter masses and the Christmas masses.
I remember lighting candles and being asked by families to do funerals and weddings which I always felt honored to do. When my parish back then did not have a regular priest I was the one who set up for the mass and helped out where I could.
A time of my life I will always treasure.
I’m very excited about being able to listen to the archived SQPN shows via CD/DVD! Like your caller (Martha?), I’d love to be able to hear the earlier Daily Breakfasts, as well as some of the other shows. Great idea (and another way to support SQPN too)!
Also, really like the new logo for your Giving Campaign progress - 25% of your goal and 25% of the star above “water” is a very effective graphical representation of your needs. I know it’s easy for me to say, but don’t worry - the Lord won’t let SQPN sink!
Thanks for playing and responding to my feedback, Fr. Rod! (My children think I’m famous now). I had no idea the whole old podcast thing was so technical…maybe I should start listening more carefully to those “geek” segments. I’m glad to hear that they’ll be available in the future.
God Bless,
Martha
I just watched the trailer for Eve Online. Wow. That really looks so cool!
As for PVP action in MMORPGs, usually the game offers the option whether or not you want to make your character available to PVP. At least this was the case in Everquest and Guild Wars and as far as I can tell this is also true for World of Warcraft. I know this because I don’t like PVP and I only play PVE, but I don’t mind that other people do like it. As long as the game developers provide it in a way that doesn’t bother me.
That’s my two cents on this discussion.
Keep up the good work!

Hi! Great show!
I tried EVE Online a couple of months ago, and I really liked the idea of mining and trading but was very put off by the way the fighting was done. As an avid World of Warcraft player since two years I am used to quite smooth fighting, both in PvE and PvP (see Yelda van Eijk’s comment). But I found the fighting in EVE Online to be boring and it wasn’t smooth at all, at least not on my system. That’s a real shame because I really like the trading and diplomacy parts of the game.
As for the dangers with PvP, I think that you are on the wrong track. I don’t think that PvP is particularly dangerous. In PvP fighting you take more responsibility because it’s a real person you are fighting. For instance, I wouldn’t attack a player in World of Warcraft who has 300 health points while my basic attack does 700 damage in one blow. It isn’t fair. On the other hand, I can with no hesitation kill a rabbit (PvE) with the same damage when the rabbit only has 10 health points.
