  1. Check this out! Amazon has acquired one of the 7 copies of The Tales of Beedle the Bard and they’ve got reviews and a synopsis of each story plus pictures of the book and even a video! It’s here: http://www.amazon.com/beedlebard

  2. Susan, we talk about this book in show #25, a link is in the shownotes. Very exciting indeed!

  3. How embarrassing! :-) Haven’t had time to listen yet but just got so excited over this fairy tale book.

  4. Great show! But could you please take in parts of the former show format (like information gathered in poem form)? I really loved that!

PS: J.K. Rowling is going to be on episode 130 of Pottercast. The show will be released tomorrow and a preview of this first-ever podcast interview with Jo has already been posted over at leakynews.com

  5. Hi Susi, we had to change the format of the show, because the previous format required a tremendous amount of research, preparation and script-writing. Some of the episodes written by Katie and presented by Br. Giles were beautifully crafted, but unfortunately neither of them has time anymore.

So we had to choose a different approach to guarantee the survival of the Secrets of Harry Potter. I hope there is still enough content to keep everyone interested. Feel free to submit some information in poem form, we’ll gladly use it in the show! :)

  6. Nice editing, Father.
    ;-)

  7. Father, I love the new format of your show. It’s more interactive and lively having two hosts instead of only one. Great work, Father.

  8. Wonderful new format. I think that Maria and Father Roderick have a wonderful rapport and both can back each other up when needed. As I have yet to listen to a show live, I cannot comment on the live quality, but the podcast production values have not dropped at all due to the new techniques used to podcast.

A few notes on the last show: firstly, J.K. Rowling’s “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” were sold to Amazon.com as an auction item for a charity Ms. Rowling supports called “The Children’s Voice Campaign” The site is only legally allowed to publish summaries of the handwritten tale as publication of the entire source is contractually forbidden. The book itself will tour libraries around the United States so children can see the book. How giving of Amazon to not only pay 1.9 million pounds to the cause, but then to give back to the children in showing them this unique piece of literature.

Secondly, “Merlin’s Pants” is actually an inside joke of sorts it seems with Rowling and her personal assistant who is fond of the word Pants. Merlin is already established as a wizard of great power and note in the Harry Potter world (based upon the “Chocolate Frog” cards) and putting them together in a comical way probably amused her assistant greatly. I believe it was used in an earlier book as well as in “Deathly Hallows.”

I hope these bits of information clear up some issues for some people, and I hope to listen live some day soon. Keep up the wonderful work.

    Happy Christmas all!

  9. That’s funny about the pants, Aimee. It’s amazing how we can sometimes read all kinds of things into literature to make it our own, when all it is, is an inside joke with the author. I’m guilty of the same thing, only, LOL, not even close to approaching being in the same room with JKR.

I think the late night talk show host, David Letterman, has some “pants” running joke too. Who knew?

Thanks for the great feedback! I hope you (and everyone else!) can catch the show live and contribute your knowledge. It’s neat to share in this new format.

    ~Maria
