  1. Father Roderick,
This episode is not downloading from iTunes.

  2. Libsyn seems to have some issues. It downloads fine for me, but refused to download earlier. Keep trying.

  3. This article talks about the chalking of the initials of the wise men, and has a Blessing of the Chalk.

  4. This episode is downloading from iTunes as we speak (er, type)… :)

  5. You need to do some “research” on the Play “Sweeney Todd and the Demon Barber of Fleet Steet” By Stephen Soundhiem from which this film is based. The play is terrific as it tells us that what Sweeney did we are all capable of doing once we succumb to revenge and its evil. The movie is well worth the effort ( and you know when the blood is coming). BTW the play can bee seen on DVD (Angela Landsbury and Len Cariou) and it is not nearly as bloody as the movie (although the method of death is the same).

  6. finally! had to unsubscribe and re-subscribe to download.

  7. Hey! That was my feedback that you heard on RA #202 about marking your doorposts for Epiphany. We marked the doorposts in my classroom last week. Thanks for speaking Christus mansionem benedicat in Latin. You are much more fluent than I!

Here’s another site that discusses marking your doorposts.

  8. I cant wait to sweeny todd just to see how it will work as a horror/ musical from what I have herd about it. Everything seems good

  9. A couple of comments that touched home for me…

First, I was surprised about your experience of the use of “CMB” above a doorway. I’m probably fourth generation German American and my grandparents (and my parents) taught us about the chalk and use of “CMB” above the doorway. Your description was fine, but to demonstrate for any others it is as:

    20+C+M+B+08

The “CMB”, of course, stand for “Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar”, the traditional names for the three wise men. And, of course, you mention of “Christus mansionem benedicat” is also dear to me since our parish church has that above the door in the narthex. The parish church was constructed in 2005, so it appears as:

    20+C+M+B+05

I also wanted to say how I appreciated your mentioning train travel. Unfortunately, in the US that’s something that is pretty much in the past. One of my fondest memories was taking the train from Vancouver BC to Toronto some 30 years ago. The 3 day trip included breathtaking views of the Canadian Rockies and the forests of Ontario. It was a wonderful trip! We still have Amtrak, but the government has underfunded it hoping it will go away. Fortunately there are still a lot of people who enjoy train travel. Ofr course, in the northeast US we have an outstanding example of what could be a nationwide rail system.

Thanks for jogging the memory banks!

  10. Hello Father,

So happy to hear you will be going to Canada. I am about an hour east of Toronto. Just a few tips of travel.

Our train is ViaRail. The link to their website is: http://www.viarail.ca/en_index.html I know you want your travel to be flexible, but if you book ahead, I think you get up to 40% off on travel. At the above site you can check the schedules and fares. Just a note for you as a european traveller, it is a bit on the complicated side to get to the train station by public transit to Union Station (where you would take the train from). You have to have either (a) change or (b) a token to get on the bus that will take you to a metro station that you can then take to get to Union Station.

As far as travel within Canada, I would really recommend WestJet for price as well as comfort. All the people who work for WestJet are owners, which makes for pretty happy employees. They have good deals especially for mid-week travel, and you can find good prices especially at their website: http://c3dsp.westjet.com/guest/home.shtml?language=EN&fromSplash=true

As far as the french spoken in Quebec, the sound is a lot more harsh than French french. But Montreal is a beautiful city, though to get a good european city, you definitely have to visit Quebec City.

  11. Just a wordof warning w/ Sweeney. From what I understand Burton attempted to get a PG-13 rating and when the crazy and inconsistent MPAA did not grant him the rating he dumped as much blood as he could into the movie to “push” the R rating as well as the MPAAs buttons. Not that this was not a bloody movie to begin with buy now I guess you get more for your $ if you like that stuff.
