  1. Keep your thermal undies close! ;-)

  2. Wow you’re going to be on local Winnipeg radio station CJOB’s GodTalk, I’m impressed! I love that radio show!

  3. Toques…from the French tuques, simply a must!!!
Another method to keep warm is to use taxis, drink Molson Canadian beer and do your running on an inside track rather than outdoors.
Have a great time in my country and plan to come back during summer months.

  4. There are also underground pathways almost like an underground city :) I don’t know if Winnipeg has them, but I know Montreal and Toronto does :)

  5. I can’t resist giving you another must-see to consider, Father. I fell in love with Toronto for one reason: Casa Loma. My time there easily competes with the best vacation moments of my life — including that cruise on the Seine at dusk (talk about stunning). Casa Loma inspired awe in me unlike almost nothing else before or since. It wasn’t merely an appreciation for historic architecture or manicured gardens, but an actual aesthetic experience. And if the castle itself wasn’t enough, the view of Toronto from the gardens was.. painfully beautiful. Toronto from Casa Loma tormented me because I knew in a few minutes I would have to turn around and walk away, forever maybe. But we can always return to our memories, as Ralph Waldo Emerson suggests. “Though we travel the world to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” I hope you, too, will experience something beautiful in Toronto, wherever you seek it. I agree with Denyse, though, that Toronto is probably best enjoyed during summer.

  6. Despite all the work: I am envious and I am looking forward to reports from Canada.

And yes, I am a big Catholic Insider fan… ;)

  7. A small correction: I just noticed on dict.cc that the word “envious” has a negative meaning like being resentful. What I intended to say: I wish I could be in Canada, too. Sorry for the second post in a row.

  8. Good luck on your trip, hope you’ll have fun, won’t be too cold and it’ll be fruitful :).

  9. Have a fabulous time, Father - be sure to let us know how cold it really is there! :)
Oh, and let any negativity just slide off your shoulders into the snow - know whut I mean? ;)
    Take care…

  10. @ Christian - Don’t worry! We all wish we could go along (and I wouldn’t have taken ‘envious’ wrong - it’s fine, partuculatly when said with a :) ).

  11. Sorry - that’s PARTICULARLY… *sigh* And 3 posts! :P

  12. So, how’s it going, eh?

  13. GREAT WHITE NORTH TV SHOW

Fr. Roderick for a humorous introduction to Canada by Canadians I suggest watching some of canadian content The Great White North show segments hosted by Bob & Doug McKenzie from Second City TV out of Toronto here:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=kh4k3L0WrEE

And for more of their TV show segments, there is a list here:

    http://youtube.com/results?search_query=great+white+north&search=Search

On the last Catholic In A Small Town, Father Ben can be heard singing part of The Great White North nonsensical theme song from the beginning of the first video above but he didn’t identify where his song came from.

    It is all funny! :)

  14. Save travels, Father.

I’m looking forward to seeing the meet & greet details for Montreal on Tuesday!

  15. Doh! No updates on a Montreal meet yet?

  16. Must be partying hardy in Montreal - we don’t seem to have updates or photos like we did with Toronto! ;-)

  17. Are you okay Fr. Roderick? You were supposed to be back in The Netherlands on Thursday, but we haven’t heard of you. Well, maybe with the jet lag and parish work you have had a tough time. Have a good rest and we look forward to hear of you soon. God bless you always.
