I fell in love with Toronto for one reason: Casa Loma. My time there easily competes with the best vacation moments of my life -- including that cruise on the Seine at dusk (talk about stunning). Casa Loma inspired awe in me unlike almost nothing else before or since. It wasn't merely an appreciation for historic architecture or manicured gardens, but an actual aesthetic experience. And if the castle itself wasn't enough, the view of Toronto from the gardens was.. painfully beautiful. Toronto from Casa Loma tormented me because I knew in a few minutes I would have to turn around and walk away, forever maybe. But we can always return to our memories, as Ralph Waldo Emerson suggests. "Though we travel the world to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not." I hope you, too, will experience something beautiful in Toronto, wherever you seek it. I agree with Denyse, though, that Toronto is probably best enjoyed during summer. Another method to keep warm is to use taxis, drink Molson Canadian beer and do your running on an inside track rather than outdoors.
