  1. I’ve resisted looking at the sports highlights to see who actually won that game! I guess I’ll find out soon enough!

  2. Father,

I love your play-by-play coverage of the game. Although I missed the game, you did a good job describing it for me. I think you may have another vocation as a hockey commentator!

We’ll have to get you back in Wpg during the summer so you can do the play-by-play of one of our baseball or football games.

Nice meeting you this weekend. Thanks for everything!

    Susan

  3. I enjoyed the game… Although I am not a Canadian, I am in spirit, eh? (sorry…). It was funny to hear you (and I’m not making fun or criticizing) when you thought the game was over after two periods. You referred to the “rink” as the field, or the stadium… You mentioned the Moose were ahead by 2 “points”… In hockey, “points” are what you have in the standings and “goals” are what you get in the game.

I’d also say that although I am unfamiliar with both teams (I do remember the Winnepeg Jets and Bobby Hull), I would be willing to bet that most of the players on the Syracuse team were Canadians as well.

The other thing I wanted to mention is that although fighting is part of the game, there are many of us to still prefer “finesse” hockey over the rough and tumble stuff that you get in some places.

Anyway, I enjoyed being at the game and heaing the accents of the Canadians.

    Thanks!!

  4. How wonderful to hear about your first Hockey game! I lived in North Dakota not far from Wpg and I grew up watching hockey. My son plays hockey out in LA.
It was great to hear your comments. And I have to agree with the post about “rink vs field” to funny!
Hope you enjoyed your visit to Canada!

  5. you have got to get out more!love the sport !

  6. Other than the hockey game, I would be intersted to hear how you were received after your talk about Catholism and new media. Enjoy yourself in my home country. Just so you know I’m a Canadian now living in Florida. We just went through our cold snap of 45 degrees F.

  7. Fantastic shows, Father! I love attending ice hockey games, not so much for the sport itself but for the atmosphere of the game with the shouting and cheering. I was impressed by the audio quality. In my recent podcast episode I published (yes, I am a podcaster myself), I talk about the ice hockey game I attended a couple of weeks ago. I tried to record some audio during the game but I couldn’t use any of the recorded audio because it was horrible. Only undistinguishable ambient noise. What type of microphone did you use?

  8. @Johan: I just use my Samson Zoom H2. Sometimes the soundlevels would max out though, especially when the Manitoba Moose scored :)
