  1. Hmm… can’t seem to download episode, or open it up in the browser.

  2. Works fine on this end… try again.

  3. Your back so missed you fr. R How is the Jet lag????????
    yippee.

  4. Hi fr. Rotherick,

    Welcome home!

I am puzzled about the whole Peter R. de Vries thing. Of course, what you said is right. It´s terrible what Joran did… but what about the way this confession is made? Joran thought he had a friend whom he trusted. Isn´t this an abuse of friendship…? I wrote (Dutch) blog about it, but I am curious about your opinion in this case.

    God bless,

    Boele P. Ytsma

  5. The jet lag is still there, but it’s getting better. I’m glad to be back with the Daily Breakfast; I hope that my temporary interruption enabled some listeners to catch up with previous episodes!

  6. Boele, as far as I can tell, there was never ‘real’ friendship; the undercover guy only tried to make Joran as comfortable as possible so that he might spill the beans.

It’s a technique used many times before by investigative journalists, and if it helps to uncover the truth, I don’t feel that a line has been crossed.

At least now Natalee’s mother can finally start to mourn. We’ll see what happens next on a legal level, but even if the legal system can’t uncover the whole truth, God still knows. One day, we will all stand in front of Him, and we will be held accountable for what we did. May God have mercy on us that day!

  7. taking melatonin is suppose to hep jet lag, aye.

  8. Just read that page, but it’s still totally unclear to me what the game is about. I need a more visual introduction and less lingo :)

  9. Hi Father–

As far as learning about football: Hopefully this suggestion won’t sound too off-the-wall…but maybe the best thing would be to rent or buy a Madden video game. Since Madden 08 is out, it shouldn’t be hard to find used copies of Madden 07 for real cheap. Just play with it (might be clumsy at first) and try to get a feel for the game.

  10. I recommend “What is was was Football,” a monologue by Andy Griffith. Maybe you could record your own version featuring a Dutch dude’s first encounter with the game!

  11. Hello Father!

I would love to suggest, especially to new fans, Father Roderick’s *wonderful* mobile video from last year for Carnaval.

Fr. Roderick traveled to Limburg in the Netherlands to watch the Carnaval parade in the city of Sittard. Here’s the wonderful video he produced:

Keep up the great work, Father.

  12. This is an amazing story! I did not know that the church was going to have exorcism squads or that there was an International Association of Exorcists. -

POPE BACKS SURGE OF EXORCISM SQUADS ‘TO FIGHT THE DEVIL HEAD ON’- David Edwards & Muriel KaneTuesday Feb 5, 2008

The Vatican has never given up belief in the reality of demonic possession, but the practice of actual exorcisms has waned over the last few centuries. Now, however, the Vatican’s chief exorcist has revealed that Pope Benedict XVI takes the problem very seriously and is “setting up exorcism squads to deal with the rampant growth of Satanism.”

Father Gabriele Amorth is both the senior exorcist of the diocese of Rome and the founder of the International Association of Exorcists. He has condemned the Harry Potter novels as containing “the signature of the Prince of Darkness” and recently warned that diabolical influences can reach even into the Vatican.

Amorth told IBN that “the action of the Devil is a lot more widespread than in the past, not because he has more strength, but because he is given more space.” He went on to complain that these days “prists and bishops know nothing about the subject. … They believe in the Devil, but they don’t believe much in the actions of the Devil, so they prefer to send everyone to psychiatrists.”

Pope Benedict, who “is said to be a firm believer in the existence of evil,” has called for hundreds of priests to be trained as exorcists and made available to every Bishop. “Thank God there is a pope who wants to fight the devil head on,” Amorth told IBN.

This video is from CNN/IBN, broadcast February 4, 2008.

  13. Basically football is about gaining terrain (landje pik :)). You can 4 tries to gain 10 yards, until the ball is in the end zone of the other party. If you keep that in mind, you might understand the rest of the game :).

  14. They just had to slip in the Harry Potter myth, didn’t they? ;)

  15. A group of resources from basic to slightly more advanced.

  16. A podcast on Football basics from the book “The Rookie” by Scott Sigler
    http://www.podiobooks.com/title/the-rookie/
Go to the chapters at the bottom of the page “Football Basics” #1 & #2
Note the explicit warning, only these 2 chapters are recommended for those easily offended.

  17. hey Father!
If you want to see how serious New Orleans takes Lent, watch what happens as Lent begins, and Fat tuesday ends. There is a website called nola.com that has a whole bunch of webcams up that document all the shenanigans that go down in new Orleans during Mardi Gras. But at midnight, when Lent begins, every single bar in town closes at midnight, the police make the tourists leave the streets, and the prisoners from Orleans parish prison come out and clean the whole city. By daybreak on Ash wednesday, you wouldnt be able to tell that anything happened at all.
