Love the new site! Great Job!
Jennifer. It depends, I suppose, where your mind wanders to while praying, but perhaps sometimes where you go in your wandering is where you need to be in your prayer just then. Though probably most of the time it’s not. (Well, if your wanderings are like mine.)
Also, somewhere I heard a priest suggest that there is a certain level of pride in worrying too much about such wanderings. He said that it would be better to be thankful for the grace of being brought back to prayer each time. I don’t recall who it was, it could have been Fr. R., but it seemed like good advice.
On a completely different subject, I saw the beginnings of a previous RA podcast (#209 with the Popple People) on ustream, and it was great fun.
I have a major problem with my mind wandering during prayer. It is a constant thing. I feel envious that you have times that your mind doesn’t wander. I can count on one hand the number of times that I have had what you might call a ‘good’ prayer experience. But I still pray every day, I pray the rosary on the way to work and get to daily Mass whenever I can (which isn’t as often as I’d like), try to remember to pray the LOTH, and try to stop in to church on the way to work for 10-15 minutes when I can. I had heard either Fr. Robert Barron or Peter Kreeft say something to the effect that if you want to learn how to pray better, then just get on with it. Just do it! That’s what I am trying to do, and with any luck I will occasionally have an experience to write about. Hang in there Jennifer!!
