DB#445 - Bible Veggies
In today’s Daily Breakfast: Time management for Catholics; reaching out to former Catholics; the wisdom of the Church; Health Tips from the Bible; Yoda translations; Old Testament veggies; Sicko, Michael Moore and pope John Paul II; my Lenten experiment; weightloss, rising early and running.

I’ve had the Google “auto-translate” feature on the web pages for a while. The results can vary from comical to just plain confusing. I’ve actually gotten some very angry hate mail from people who thought I was making fun of their language. Had to explain to them that my language skills are not good enough to mock german or french.
Father - you are right — Michael Moore is a good story teller. And sometimes he actually gets some of the truth and the time lines of events correct. Do the research o the film before you see it.
Hey Fr R,I appreciate your outreach to non-Catholics, disaffected Catholics, the away for a while Catholics...
I've been putting up chapters of an online Trilogy which attempts to find workable solutions to some of the most pressing areas of engagement today, including, for instance, interreligious dialogue.
It's written as a mystery thriller, although there is plenty of high level academics going on... Unlike the Dan Brown efforts, the reader can do research on the more important points and find them all verifiable.

God bless you, Fr R !
In todays pod cast you were talking about seeking religion, are you familiar with Oprah Winfrey? Oprah is having an on-line class on sprituality with Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth. I would appreciate your comments.
Fr. Roderick,
One caveat on using the Book of Daniel and vegetables. The reason why Daniel and the other didn’t want to eat what the others were eating had nothing to do with nutrition. They did not want to eat meat that was sacrificed to idols. This was the reason why since besides pork the Jewish people were not adversed to eating meat as for example of course the Passover lamb, though as for many in those times meat was a rarity for their diets.
That Daniel and the others were just as healthy as the others was mainly of sign of God’s grace and not just the fact that veggies are good for you.
Jeff, I know that of course! But I thought it was funny to see that Daniel asks for vegetables (he could have asked for bread instead). Isn’t it possible to see vegetables as instruments of God’s grace in this passage?
I’d like anyone who thinks “Sicko” even begins to represent a fair depiction of healthcare in either the United States or Canada to look up a television or newspaper web site for Toronto or some other Canadian city and run a search for “healthcare.”
Funny how it’s one of the biggest problems in their country too. Sure didn’t hear much about that in “Sicko.”
As someone with over 30 yeas of healthcare here in the US.
sadly Sicko hits the nail on the head
