Maybe you could comment in the Daily Breakfast.

  2. Where can I find the links to “The Music Man’s” featured artists?

    Thanks,

  3. Fr. Roderick

Could you post your Exsultant (Latin) as an mp3 file; so we could download it and enjoy it on our Ipods, Zens, Irivers or Zunes.

  5. *A “ONE-STOP-SHOPPING” GUIDE TO POPE BENEDICT’S U.S. VISIT*

If one is interested in the Pope’s visit to the United States next month, the long time widely respected catholic writer/analyst/columnist John L. Allen Jr. has an in depth article on the next months visit with important links referencing it:

    A “one-stop-shopping” guide to Pope Benedict’s U.S. visit

All Things Catholic by John L. Allen, Jr. - Thursday, March 20, 2008 - Vol. 7, No. 28

This week’s column is intended as a “one-stop-shopping” guide to the April 15-20 visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States. There’s a lot of material, and it may be best read in chunks rather than at one sitting. I hope it proves a useful overview not just of the highlights of the pope’s schedule, but also the trip’s background and context.

At the end, I provide links to Benedict XVI’s itinerary and to other resources. I’ll be accompanying Benedict XVI on the papal plane and throughout the trip, and will be filing regular news postings under my “Daily Updates” section of johnallen.ncrcafe.org.

ARTICLE WITH IMPORTANT LINKS ON POPE BENEDICT’S APRIL 2008 VISIT CONTINUES HERE:

  6. @ James A - Great idea!

Yes Father? It’d be fabulous to be able to download your Latin Exsultant (and anything else) that you sing - ’tis truly beautiful as the Lord has blessed you with a wonderful voice and presence.

Oh, and I agree with you and Jean-Luc - ‘Earl Grey’ rocks (and so does ‘Lady Grey’)! :)

  7. POLL: POPE UNKNOWN TO MOST AMERICANS

I just found this interesting poll on the pope in the United States:
    ___________________________________________

Poll: Pope unknown to most Americans

By DANIEL BURKE - RELIGION NEWS SERVICE, Published: March 26, 2008

WASHINGTON (RNS) Most Americans hold a favorable opinion of Pope Benedict XVI, but the vast majority confess they don’t know much about the pontiff, according to a new poll.

Just weeks before Benedict’s first trip to the U.S. as leader of the Roman Catholic Church, 58 percent of Americans say they have a favorable or “very favorable” opinion of him.

But when asked how much they know about the 80-year-old German, 52 percent said “not very much,” and nearly 30 percent said “nothing at all.”

Benedict and Americans will have a chance to get to know one another better April 15-20, when the pope celebrates Masses, greets interfaith leaders, and visits heads of state in New York and Washington, D.C.

Forty-two percent of Americans said they’d like to attend one of Benedict’s public appearances, according to the survey, which was conducted by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion and financed by the Knights of Columbus. Sixty-six percent of Catholics said the same.

More than 70 percent of Americans look forward to hearing Benedict talk about spiritual matters such as God’s presence in daily life, spiritual fulfillment and how to positively affect the world.

The survey polled 1,015 adults 18 years of age or older, 613 of whom were Catholic. The margin of error for all Americans is plus or minus 3 percent; for the Catholic sample alone it is plus or minus 4 percent.

  8. Okay, I couldn’t say it in Latin but I looked up the Dutch:
“Gelieve te registreren uw het zingen voor ons” (Hopefully that says “Please record your songs for us!” ;-) Maybe if you had been my Latin teacher I would’ve stuck it out longer! Thanks for the beautiful Exsultet and Latin lessons-they’re great!

  10. Greetings from Slovenia.
As I see, a visit of pope Benedict XVI will be a blessing for all America. I’m glad to found this site.
All people must be the one, I believe that’s a intention of his visit.
I wish you all a happy and blessed Easter!

  11. Fr. Roderick,

The Pope will visit Washington, DC between April 15 and 18. I am in the DC area. I could became a SQPN special correspondent.

  12. What happened to the SHP series? I’ve only listned to #27 (which appears to me to be the latest) and was about to comment on a few matters, but then realised it was an OLD episode! Was it discontinued?

  13. Fr. Roderick - if you’re not following TweetJeebus on Twitter, he (?)’s a must. You’ll howl. (wait, you’re not the guy behind the TweetJeebus are you?)

  14. Re: the requests for an mp3 of the Exsultant, perhaps you could post it to the Catholic Prayers feed you started. It would be appropriate there.

  15. Hello Fr Roderick, no April Fool’s treat this year?!?

About teas, if you like Earl Grey, you’d probably like Lady Grey and Prince of Wales too. First one you can get at AH and the second is from Twiling (or what is that brand called again). Camomile is a very nice herb tea, but make sure there is a loo in the area or you have a large bladder ;-)

The other day there was a nice quiz question on tv. Which has more cafeine a cup of coffee or a cup of tea?

The answer is a CUP of coffee, but a kilo of tea has more cafeine than a kilo of coffee. (and of course in Dutch when it is in tea it is called theïne not cafeïne)

  16. Re: AMOUNT OF CAFFEINE IN COFFEE vs TEA

On average the amount of caffeine in the same amount of coffee is twice the amount in tea. Of course this varies according to the type. The “Gourmet” coffee’s use the better tasting “Arabica” type of coffee bean which has less caffeine whereas the mass market pre-ground canned coffee uses the harsher tasting “Robusta” type of coffee bean which has a higher caffeine amount.

Incidently, the worlds largest restaurant chain, McDonald’s will be offering a variety of gourmet coffee drinks very soon with their “McCafe’s”. These are already in test in the Chicago area where McDonald’s has their headquarters in the west suburban town of Oakbrook, Illinois.

As far as the best deal on a cup of coffee, McDonald’s offers a small cup of their premium roast coffee with a free refill for about 55 cents to those over 50. It is called a “Senior Coffee”. For a regular cup of coffee it is not too bad and almost always better than the burnt offerings of the regular coffee from Charbucks, however it doesn’t measure up at all to a fresh ground, properly brewed fresh cup from Caribou, Dunkin Donuts, an excellent local coffee house or a fresh ground properly brewed cup at home.

  17. With all the renewed interest in legitimate exorcisms and renewed training & support for that from the catholic church this latest news/investigation on fake exorcisms for as much as 3 million lira by a priest in Florence, Italy is very dissapointing:
    ____________________________________

Priest ‘Made £3 Million From Fake Exorcisms’

    By Malcolm Moore in Milan
    Last Updated: 1:45am BST 03/04/2008

A senior priest in Florence is under investigation for fraud after allegedly amassing £3 million by performing fake exorcisms.

Prosecutors said that Father Francesco Saverio Bazzoffi would “stage shows” at the House of the Sainted Archangels, an organisation he founded.

During the events, which regularly attracted crowds of over 400 people, a number of associates would “pretend to be possessed by demons” and Fr Bazzoffi would allegedly exorcise them using ancient and obscure rites.

He would then offer to “heal” members of the audience who were sick, and solicit donations to his organisation.

One witness told police: “During Mass, the priest spoke in Aramaic, and strange things happened. I do not know if it was group hysteria or our suggestibility, but I remember one old woman screaming in a man’s voice while five big guys held her down.”

Prosecutors, who have also put 13 of his associates under investigation, started monitoring Fr Bazzoffi in 2005. His house was raided last month, and several documents were seized that showed the priest had £3 million in his bank account.

Fr Bazzoffi, who heads the matrimony office of the diocese of Florence, was publicly cautioned against performing exorcisms last October by the Archbishop of the city, Cardinal Ennio Antonelli.

In a letter, the cardinal wrote: “I would like to make clear the following: any sort of special rite of benediction, such as the laying on of hands, is forbidden. Exorcisms are also prohibited.” Only priests authorised by the diocese are permitted to carry out exorcisms.

Fr Bazzoffi denies that he had “ever practised” exorcisms and admitted that he did not have a licence. “I have always only carried out blessings,” he said. He added that he “welcomed” the cardinal’s admonition, since “it showed that work like mine can trigger suspicion”.

He denied that he had ever “encouraged” sick people to believe he could heal them. “These accusations would make me laugh, if it was not such a serious thing.”

He added: “The House of the Sainted Archangels is not a registered business and does not have a bank account. So I opened one in my own name.

“All the money for our charitable works goes through it. It may seem like a lot, but it is made up of lots of small donations. Around 30,000 people come to us every year. The police should be able to see that the money always goes out to our projects in India and the Philippines.”
