Mac Barron

"Mac" as the"the world" knows "him" is actually a cybernetic artificial sweetener intelligence from a dimension that we in our "world" share a pay toilet with on the Champs de Ellysses. "We" still aren't exactly sure why "he" ends up on a podcast most weeks. It's a mystery!

As a fairly regular listener to your podcasts I wanted to let you know that your talk on racism was the best item ever. Your honesty and open attitudes were a great witness to true christianity.

  2. Here’s an excerpt of a good independent review of Hulu.com from the technology columnist at the Chicago Sun Times:

*No Need To Jump Through Hoops To Enjoy Hulu*

VIDEO ON DEMAND | Top TV shows, movies ready to watch — and it’s free

BY ANDY IHNATKO, March 20, 2008

If you have no idea why sites like Hulu.com are absolutely essential to the future of television, let me tell you what I was forced to do to watch the new episode of “House” that aired right after the Super Bowl.

It got delayed by the fact that the NFL can’t multiply 15 minutes by 4 quarters and get the simple answer “one hour.” Then it got delayed by the postgame-celebration and then by airhead commentators on both the national and local levels. I thought I’d told my TiVo to add enough time to the recording to cover any contingency. But sure enough . . . the recording cut off 49 minutes into the show, right before the big surprise ending.

It wasn’t scheduled to repeat anytime soon, and it wasn’t for sale on the iTunes Store. So I stole it. I went ahead and downloaded it off the ‘Net.

Here’s the important lesson: I didn’t download “House” because I have no sense of right or wrong and I didn’t do it because I don’t think creators and producers should be compensated for their work. I did it because I wanted to know how the show ended. And Fox, by constantly pre-empting and delaying all of their best shows in favor of sports, specials, and “American Idol,” has taken something as simple as watching a TV show and made it as unpredictable as chasing after a golden retriever with a tennis ball in his mouth.

Bringing us back to the point that TV is broken and needs some drastic fixes. . . . This idea of broadcasting a show on a specific date and a specific time had a nice 60-year run, but it no longer makes sense. Shockingly, it appears that the networks and other content providers are finally willing to make some big plays.

Witness Hulu.com. If it had been fully armed and operational back in January, I could have turned to any computer with a browser capable of playing Flash videos, hit Hulu — and found the most recent few episodes of “House” available for immediate playback, posted in full-screen quality with the blessings of the network.

Click, play. That’s it. There are a few commercials thrown into the presentation, but we’re sort of numb to that by now, aren’t we? The important thing is that there are no per-viewing fees, no membership fees, no nothin’. Sign up for a free account and you’re up and running…

  3. Ok guys. Thumbs up on the touchy subject of race. You did an excellent job. It was honest and really quite interesting coming from people living in the South. There is definitely a bit of a historical difference than from other states, but it doesn’t matter where you live, racism exists from coast to coast. I admire that you guys opened up and shared the reality of how you really feel. Great show!

  4. Mac, congratulations on getting through this episode without using an excerpt from or commenting on Driving Miss Daisy, Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner or O Brother, Where Art Thou?. ;)

Good for you that you brought the serious thinking part of The Mind Of Mac Barron on this.
