What negative commentary are you referring to? I went to the store and didn’t notice any negative commentary on either Christian Prayer or The Liturgy of the Hours (4 volume set). Both are THE official liturgy of the hours. Just depends how much money you can spend right now. The Christian Prayer will get you by until you can afford the 4 volume set. Just make sure you get a guide each year or use this site :
http://www.liturgyofthehours.org/todays_prayers_christian_prayer.htm
That will give you the page numbers each month. I have both versions and use them both (one stays home and one is in the car). You will love it!!

If you do a cost comparison between Magnificat and the full Liturgy of the Hours…the four-volume set pays for itself in three years, whereas with Magnificat you’re still paying after the three-year mark. Just a thought…

Joe…consider “Magnificat” magazine (http://www.magnificat.com/)…it’s includes shortened Hours (Lauds, Vespers, and Compline) plus readings for the Holy Mass, the Order of Mass, saints of the day, spiritual reading (short of like the Office of Readings), and sacred artwork. It’s a good way to “ease into” daily liturgical prayer…$US40/year.

Not really sure where this belongs, so if I may i will ask it here.

I am looking for a ‘good’ (relative term), officail (sanctioned by the church) and as I am a novice – inexpensive (taking babysteps here) version of the Litergy of the hours.

I know the store Father has set up has a few, but there are some negative commentary on a few and I want to make sure I get one meeting the above criteria.

Any suggestions?
