In case you hadn’t heard … Disclosure is a dark movie with adult characters struggling with personal demons and questions of values and morality. The movie held my attention throughout, but be warned there are a few minutes of dialogue with strong language plus at least two “R rated” scenes.

The ABC series “Lost” also seems to have an interesting story line with Kate and how she could clearly get Jack or Sawyer to do pretty much anyhting she wants as Sawyer and Jack both want to be there in her moment of need.

Kate seems to mostly keep her ability to manipulate them in check until she decides something is important to her…then it takes her less than a minute to achieve her objective.

Thanks for the heads up on “The Happening”. I do like to avoid buying tickets / sending money to unworthy movie projects.

And great sound effects for the leggo building. I can picture it.

Then you lose me on a couple things.

Kirk Cameron movies for Christians. Are Catholics part of this group or not? Are you using “Christians” to say “Non-Catholics or “Evangelicals”? I remember a discussion with a southern girl on an airplane. When was asked if she was Christian…she said “no … Catholic”.

A Baptist friend of mine from Cincinnati laughed and asked mw when Catholics stopped being Christian?

Maybe that’s a bible belt thing. If so, it is my judgment that southern Catholics should be careful to not stand idley by when people try to draw distinctions between Christians and Catholics.

“What woman need. Men being men and stepping up to the plate. Realizing there is a wrong that needs to be corrected.” Hmmmh.

Interesting thoughts on how guys should try to live their lives.

I mostly try to be helpful to female friends (and older relatives) when there is heavy lifting, heavy shoveling, or when my female friends are having difficult confrontations with gender biased construction crews and the like. I’ve done it and will continue to do it for female friends and older people as long as I’m physically able.

On the other hand, I am reluctant to help females I don’t know as friends because there is a double standard.

In the competitive business world, I routinely come across sharks (male and female) that look for an advantage. It’s been my experience that there are many female sharks that will temporarily act like vulnerable females to get men to lower their guard just long enough for the female shark to gain an advantage. I’ve experienced and observed female sharks in the business world enough to make me reluctant to step up to the plate and help the “damsel in distress”. Be careful how much you instill in your sons to step up to the plate to help the damsel in distress. If they end up in a competitive business environment with manipulative woman they may be naively taken advantage of. There’s a movie with Demi Moore and Michael Douglas that touches on this.

I also made a comment on the SQPN boards about an upcoming movie where the director is going to attack the Christian faith by making a scandalous and obnoxious assertion about Mary and a Roman guard. This director is clearly seeking confrontation and is counting on Christians (Catholics and Non-Catholics) to back down. Kind of like the sharks I’ve seen in the business world. It’s a Catch 22 for Christians whether to step up to the plate or don’t step up to the plate.

One SQPN female listener posted a comment that this director’s scandalous assertion shouldn’t make me angry and I shouldn’t want to lace up the skates and hit the guy.

Maybe in a future show, we can hear thoughts on what men need and how woman should try to live their lives. (Good luck on that one Mac .

And I also recognize that Catholics In A Small Town may not be the appropriate venue for this “gender differences” discussion. … or maybe it is a good venue if we can limit comments and content to text that is appropriate for youth to read.

Anyhow, I enjoy your episodes and look forward to more. Including any thoughts on how guys should behave…I clearly need more details in this area.

To Mac’s beer comment — I dated a Methodist a long time ago. I attended an adult retreat with his church out at Hard Labor Creek State Park. I was shocked when a beer cooler was opened. Scandalous… oh my. I’m happy to say I have many responsible friends as well. Sounds like you guys had a great time at the Willits. I only just discovered this wonderful world in March. I enjoyed coming early to help set up. I’m looking forward to next year.
