SBSG #7 - Answered Prayers

Has the fleet finally arrived at Earth? What is the origin of the mysterious signal that leads them there? Could the Cylons be linked to the lost Thirteenth Tribe? Does an episode from the original Battlestar Galactica hold clues to understanding the ruined temple of Aurora?
Jeff and Zina tackle all these questions and more in the wake of the show’s episode ten cliffhanger. Feel free to join the conversation in the comments section of the site, and remember to review us on iTunes. You can send wav or mp3 files to zgomezliss at gmail.com. 1. For some reason this show is not downloading from iTunes.

  2. Can you listen via the player on the website? It points to the same file. It plays fine over here..

  3. I’m going to throw out again my theory of Baltar’s role in the BSG story. I think that he is a false prophet who is being guided by an angel of the devil (there are instances in literature where the devil comes to the protagonist in the form of a beautiful woman; and in this instance, she’s a “devil in a red dress). Head Six (the devil’s angel) has been guiding Baltar throughout this journey, helping him to development his belief system and a cult of followers. Then there’s the vision in the opera house, where Baltar and Six steal away with an infant, who is probably the hope for the survival of mankind … and maybe the cylons as well? And remember the centurion who is blasted apart and severely injures Baltar? Baltar’s near-fatal wound is on the opposite side of where Christ was pierced by the centurion’s spear, a centurion who’s name just happened to be Gaius Cassius! Gaius preaches that we are all perfect, and therefore anything we do is morally and ethically acceptable because we are perfect. Tory is BSG’s Judas; Moore reminds us in one podcast of the writers’ intent to keep Tory on an evil path and she seems to be headed that way at full speed. (A sidebar: I think Anders is a “protector” of mankind and the cylons, and I don’t think it’s an accident that he walks away from Tory when she extends a hand to him in the closing scene of “Revelations.” She disgusts him even though they might’ve been lovers at one time.) Tory sleeps with Gaius, she is seduced by power and she rationalizes all her actions now, good and bad, as functions of her perfection … and she is loving this new Tory. Those are the highlights, but I’d be interested in feedback.

  4. @Pat -
I got it on my iTunes. But I only just checked now, 7 hours after your posting. Hope you have it by now.

  5. Can[t dl from itunes either… nearly 9 pm EST Boston time

  6. @Larry -
Jeff forwarded one of your e-mails. I think there was another one that he mentioned, but I didn’t receive it. I like the ideas that you have about Gaius Baltar. You seem right on in your theories. We will be recording #8 soon and we will include some of your thoughts in the next episode.

  7. With no new episodes of BSG in sight until next year, I was re-watching the last couple from season three and was struck by some things in “Dirty Hands” with respect to my thoughts on Baltar. While in the brig, he writes a tract justifying and rationalizing the actions that have landed him in jail. The title? “My Triumphs, My Mistakes.” One of the most evil figures of the 20th century, Adolf Hitler, did much the same thing when he wrote “Mein Kampf” while imprisoned in Landsberg, Germany, after an unsuccessful coup attempt. We even hear President Roslin mutter through clenched teeth that a “book burning” wouldn’t be a bad idea.
