  1. Congratulations on show #500!

  2. Hooray!!!!! Fr. Roderick is back. I didn’t even get a chance to listen to DB-500 yet, I’m in work and I just checked to see if it was there and now I’ll have to resist the temptation all day to listen to it while at work!!!

  3. Proficiat Fr. Roderick!
    Regards,

    Alonso

  4. Yippee yippeee yipppeeeeeeeeee congratulations.Love you many blessings.

  5. what is with the wierd aventars off to get my hair cut in honour of the occassion only kidding i am doing it becasie it needs it

  6. Re: Beer.

Personally, I’m convinced Heineken is made from dishwasher water. It tastes ’soapy’. I’m a Grolsch fan. And the Belgian beer (Kasteel, Kriek). :p

  7. I loved it! I don’t know if it was because it had a lot of variety, as always ;-), or if it was because it was so awaited… but it was great.

It is true what you say about reality shows. A friend of my brother participated in one and there came the moment that he decided to leave the competition because they were asking things that were not reality and that were ending up against his Christian faith. There is one program, won’t say the name here, where the people appear to be ’surprised’ when the presentators arrive at their home and you see they have these microphones in the back of the lower back!

I was just going to put in my mouth a slice of bread with mustard (similar in taste as Dyon mustard) when I hear you talking about this sauce. I started to laugh!

I do have a question about indulgences and purgatory. Jesus said to the ‘criminal’ beside him who repented before dying, “Today you will be with me in paradise”. Then, if he had to go to purgatory, Jesus could have said ‘tomorrow’. Yes, it is not physical time like us but then it would be clear that it would take him a time in purification. Also, when the dead rich man in ‘hell’ asked God to send dead Lazarus to his family to advise them about what would happen, God said there was no in between (Luke 16, 26) and no contact was possible, that people just had to listen to God and do His will. (I am paraphrasing.) Jesus always talks about heaven and hell, not of an in between. For example, again in Matthew 25, 31-46.

The Church takes a phrase from the Old Testament where it says that nothing unclean can enter heaven, but if we believe in God’s merciful love, truly repent from from the bottom of our hearts, and believe that the blood of his sacrifice on the cross won our redemption, then hasn’t His blood cleansed us? Jesus is our new covenant and He came to fulfill the law. Shouldn’t his words than perfectionate this way of thinking of the Old Testament? Could the ‘crazy bunch’ give some light about this?

I totally agree with your closing comments about all these social networkings, especially since I was wondering in these days the space I want to give it in my life. Certainly enough I want to keep in touch with so many nice people who have touched my life in the past and new ones in the present, but I especially don’t want to loose perspective about the people who surround me physcially and the responsabilities God puts in my hands day by day. God has given me the answer to my questioning throughout this episode #500. And I must say that hearing it, while cleaning the house, gave me energies to enjoy the task.

I will also have a look on F. Leo’s video. So, thanks for this fantastic special episode.

  8. Hi Father Roderick,

congratulations on your 500-th episode! It was a long wait for us DB-addicts, but well worth it. Thank you so much for all you do with SQPN, keep it up, you are in my prayers. God bless!

  9. The lime on the Corona is a US thing, here in Mexico we usually don’t put lime on it… This is because mainly the bottles are returnable and cleanning the bottle beer with lime in it is more dificult.

  10. Finally got to the end of it… Great Show. Thank you Fr.

  11. Congratulations and thanks for all you do!

  12. Here is a link that gives some idea of how web 2.0 is being used in the classroom:

  13. Congrats on the 500th episode, Father!

Did you seriously eat peanut butter and jelly for breakfast? I can see the jelly part, but the whole PB&J thing seems to me to be more of a lunch food. As to beer, if I’m drinking imported beer it’s Stella Artois, everything else is the cheapest I can get; PBR, Miller High Life, Natural Ice. ‘Cause I’m classy.

Next time you’re here you need to go to Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles, now that is some serious Southern grub.

  14. Hi Fr. Roderick,

Congrats on #500!! Thanks for all your hard work on the DB and SQPN. I will keep you in my prayers, and hope you have another 5000 shows. You are a true inspiration and a breath of fresh air for Catholicism–keep up the great work!

    Mabuhay ka Fr. Roderick!

  16. Congrats on episode 500!

Looking forward to the Fr. Leo video and the ustream goodness starting again.

    God bless!

  17. 500 DB’s lets have a drink to the next 500 thank you fr for what is one of the most intresting podcasts on the internet

  18. Father, I take it you are giving up on all the grand ideas of the live calls to pilgrims at WYD, etc.? Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you down in Sydney.

Which podcasters will be at World Youth Day? I’ve heard Fr Leo will be at the Vocations expo and Mike Hayes from BustedHalo will be at WYD. Anyone else?

  19. I love the next food network star! Who do you think will win?
    Bob

  20. Congrats on ep 500! Good to see the show back, wish I could’ve gone to the shindig in Atlanta.

  21. Hi Father,
Listening to episode 500 right now. Brief audio observation: during the clip from Father Leo’s talk it sounds like you had a noise gate set a bit too tight. The absolute silence between phrases sounds a bit unnatural. Don’t know if this was in your production or in the source recording.
Loving the episode, glad to hear you back again!

  22. I wonder if “soccer beer” is the Dutch equivalent of what Americans refer to as “lawnmower beer:” the beer you drink when you’re out doing yard work and want a light refreshing beer taste.

Hopefully at some point in the future I will be able to give Father Roderick and Greg Willits some of my home-brewed beer!

  23. CONGRATULATIONS FR RODERICK on this important milestone in your mediacasting journey!

You are well on your way to 1000 casts and far beyond.

As a listener from your very first Catholic Insider I can hear & appreciate the enriching & fullfilling growth & variety all the way up to this DB #500.

Personally I feel that The Daily Breakfast & Catholic In A Small Town are the best shows on SQPN. Besides the content of both I really appreciate that the hosts keep in mind Jesus’s message of humility(you don’t take yourselves too seriously & people can identify with your experiences & foibles in life).

What I would wish for in the future for SQPN shows would be some concerted & continuing efforts in the extremely important area of Jesus’s beatitudes(working with/helping the least of us).

May God continue to bless all your good works & help them creatively entertainingly grow,

    Michael C.

  24. Fr. Roderick,

Welcome back ! The 500th episode was great and NOT too long at all.
It was perfect for my long drive (+5 hr) to Louisville from NE Ohio this morning ! I had super companion along the way. Thank you and God Bless.

  25. @Colin - Maybe it’s like an Irish “session beer”, the kind that’s light enough that you can put away a lot of during a a drinking session, and you still won’t get all sloppified.

  26. Happy 500th, Fr. Roderick! Amazing podcasts! May God continue to bless you and send you His graces for your world-wide work! Thanks for your commitment, stamina and for your passion for life! It’s like a breath of fresh air!

    Love and prayers,
    Mary from Southern California

  27. Happy 500th! I was so happy to see the super sized length. It was such a joy to meet you in Atlanta. Keep up the wonderful work. I just made some banana bread of my own tonight. I’ll be taking it to my SFO fraternity picnic on Saturday.

    Peace,
    Jan
