Father, thanks for your Bastille Day greetings, even though I am listening to this so late! I am wondering how many listeners you have in France -- no one else has reacted to your message, but then again, you know how France is in July and August, so maybe they will respond à la rentrée? Anyway, thanks!

Fr. Roderick,
You mentioned that one of the attendees of WYD was taken to the hospital for being too cold (hypothermic). You said something about summer at the same time. August is winter in Australia, though. I am a couple of days behind on my Daily Breakfast, as you can see. I don't understand the hye of the iPhone. I don't even really like my iPod. All I can think about all of these combination phone/PDA/MP3 players is that you are really in trouble if just one part decides to break....

Have a blessed day!

Hey Father, and others..

Father, I checked out the Universalis app you mentioned.
It actually is also a website that has all of the Devine Offices for the day.
www.universalis.com
The website is free, but only has the current and the next few days worth of prayers listed.

The Iphone/iTouch app would be the entire years worth of readings allowing you to query ahead what a particular day is (what the readings are and the feast day it is, etc.)

Thanks for the referral... very cool!

@Joe - The contract deal that comes with the Dutch 3G iPhone is really good. I cancelled my Telfort contract too (thanks for the advice Father!). I can now combine my hotspots plan with a mobile internet plan, and a cell phone plan for €29,95/month.

At the moment I pay that for my current hotspots account alone and the mobile internet costs €9,95 plus an €14,95 mobile phone plan. I have to admit I have a good cell phone capable of 3G already (Sony Ericsson k800i) but with the iPhone I can have about the same phone without the need of buying an extra PDA (my Sony Clié needs to be replaced) or an extra iPod (have a 1st gen 512MB iPod Shuffle).

So the iPhone isn't really extremely expensive (€159,95 for a 3 in 1 device) and therefore I'm really baffled that they didn't have normal supplies with this 'big' launch with so much media attention. If Apple really wants to take over this market, they should adopt another strategy. 21 phones at tmobile in Amersfoort is really ridiculous even when it's not a big store. Tmobile has this exclusive deal and should have been better prepared.

Good Day Fr Roderick:
Just a bit of a comment on the Iphone 3G. Being a marketer myself, I know a GREAT promotional campaign when I see it. From the persepctive of the everyday consumer, it seems that Apple really dropped the ball, by not supplying enough Iphones for their officail release. I beleive what Apple did was nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to electronics. Yes there will be some who just decide to go with another smart phone, however there are so more that just the Iphone. And short supplying the stores is a very smart way of building up demand for it. In essence, it must be a good product if you have to wait for it. Think about what this strategy has done for the Nintendo Wii, and look where it's sales have gone. Any way, just thought I would put a marketers persepctive on it.

Love the show. Keep doing what you do for the Lord.

Blessings

Re: Universalis--yes, 20 pounds seems like a lot, but it isn't exorbitant when you do the conversion. The dead-tree edition of the breviary (at least in the most common edition used here in the U.S.) will run you $36. Plus, you only need one license key to use Universalis on all your devices--provided, of course, the copies won't be used simultaneously. :-) I love having Universalis on my MacBook, and accessible via the web browser on by BlackBerry.
