I had also seen a neat photo of Tim Russert’s beaming smile next to Pope John Paul II. If anyone knows of a link to that photo, please post it.
Tim Russert – God have mercy on him. Let us pray for his soul. He had the opportunity to be openly spoken for a pro-life focus on one’s life and he may have not articulated it as much as he ought. ( not judging just what I have read).
Tim Russert was a huge loss for America in this important presidential election year. I loved that he invited Cardinal McCarrick on his show many times to help present the Catholic views on issues facing the nation and church. He was a great citizen and apostle.

This was a very enjoyable show. I’m especially glad you played the piece on Tim Russert. It was well done.
I was wondering if you’ve considered moving the Peculiar Bunch up to and earlier spot in the show? I think some of the other segments — like the TV and movies segment — could be more easily wrapped up quickly when the Thought of the Day music comes up. But I know the light segments help draw us in to the deeper things, so maybe that would not work so well…
Just something to think about.
I agree fully with Naomi! It’s not done to hurry and rush an answer to a serious question from a listener. I would feel very bad if my question were treated that way. But you seem to take all the time for the movies segment, including lengthy trailers and fragments. So yep, change the order of the segments from time to time if you want to stick to the 27 minute time frame, which – though I understand the idea – seems a bit forced and doesn’t feel very good to me.
In case you didn’t know, the “Beer Beer Beer” song was on the Playstation 2 video game “A Bard’s Tale” released many years ago. The Game is an RPG with some off-color content we previewed it to check out the used game before sending it to my Dad. The song was performed in the first tavern you get to in the game.
I just have to say, I agree with Naomi as well!!
I would love to hear more from the peculiar bunch.
Perhaps what’s going on is that Fr. Roderick has a show prep format that is left over from when the Daily Breakfast used to be longer and he could take as much time as he wanted on the show and answering these questions. I have a habit of doing this myself, making a change to a process but forgetting to tweak a certain part of the process. I understand the multiple reasons why Fr. Roderick has chosed to go to this format, but I agree changing the order of the segments at time would work. Or maybe a “highlight” segment each day that runs a little longer. Movies and TV on Monday, Geek Stuff on Tuesday, Health on Wednesday, etc.
Thanks to all for the kind comments on the Tim Russert piece.
I sent it in a few days after he died, which happened to be just as Fr. Roderick was leaving for the U.S. and a month-long break in producing the podcast.
By last week I figured he had decided not to use it because it was too old/too long/not interesting enough, etc.
Then I played DB #510/509 (?) and there it was! I was floored! Thank you Father.
