DB#511 – Satan’s Party

Today: In this show, after some feedback about an Australian-Texan WYD BBQ, I will tell you what I dreamed last night. I dreamed of wacky liturgy, a conversation with my bishop and a party organized by the Devil himself!

  1. “Wow!” is all I have to say about your dream! That and I think you’re right on it’s meaning, which just makes it all the more amazing! What I also find telling (read: awesome!) about your dream is you prayed in it and it was after praying that you came to the light. There’s just a clear message in that which I’m really not sure how to write out …

In regards to your being attacked so violently in email … I will definitely be praying for you, so Jesus’ arms are constantly embracing you, to protect you. Scary email!

  2. My favourite work with a lawyer = satan theme was the whole Angel TV series once the team starting working against Wulf, Ram and Hart. It was nice to see Joss Whedon’s take on the idea.

  3. Good to see that you carry your vocation with you always, even into dream world. I know it’s against the humility that is part of your stock in trade, but maybe you should see the dreams as an artistic representation of your defense of valid liturgy, the Church’s (by way of your bishop) approval and support of that defense, your ability to discern evil among the activities of the world even when others do not see them, and of being able to escape from the clutches of the evil ones, even if it takes work and leads you through confusing times.

  4. Dear Fr. Roderick,
What a dream! I will definitely be praying for you in the up-coming weeks, especially in masses, for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, for the protection from evil. St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

  5. Just wanted to share with you that I had a recurring dream during a short time in my youger days where a “floating” black, large figure came menacing after me. I would try to run and would actually wake up crying out at times. It was during a time when I was trying to change my life for the better. Finally, I decided that I would just face this horrid figure since I had dedicated myself to Jesus and I had faith that He certainly would help me. The dream came again and I stood firm, no, acually I was shaking somewhat from head to toe but I stood as firm as I could with the confidence that I had decided to be with Christ and that with Him I could face this creature. The figure kept coming. I was afraid I might actually see its face which made me shake even more. It kept floating right smack in my face (there was a white-noise sound getting louder too!)and suddenly, just at that point, a great white light totally engulfed me and I fell into a very deep sleep. When I awaken in the morning, everything around me looked brighter, like HD TV. It seemed to me that I had “faced” something in me that needed to be faced, like maybe I dealt with some deeply hidden sin on this strange level granted me by God. I stood firm, while shaking, choosing Christ no matter what happened to me. God is so good to help us in any way we allow Him to help!

  6. Father Roderick…I was listing to Leo Laporte’s July 20th Tech Guy Radio Show podcast and he said you had “Google Juice!” and mentioned SQPN…Awesome…I’ll sent you that portion of the show via Email

I have to agree with him what he said. Your great!

  7. just wanted to post according to dreammoods.com what seeing the devil in your dreams mean.

    “Devil
To see the devil in your dream, signifies negative aspects of yourself. It may also indicate feelings of guilt that you have been harboring. It is time to release these feelings. Alternatively, the devil may represent intelligence, cunningness, deception, and cleverness.

To dream that you fought off the devil, symbolizes that you will succeed in defeating your enemies.

To dream that the devil talks to you, signifies that you will find some temptations hard to resist even though you know it is not in your best interest.

To dream that you and the devils were in friendly terms, suggests that you may be seduced and tempted into doing something you do not want to do. You may be dealing with issues of morality. “

  8. Hmm.. my problem with these kind of websites is that they see everything in terms of symbolism. The devil as a symbol of negative feelings and feelings of guilt. I think the devil is a reality, not just a symbol, even though the dream itself can signify something beyond the story of the dream.

  9. Wow. This episode gave me chills. I think the devil is very real also. In the past, I feel I’ve wrestled with a couple evil spirits during intense intercessory prayer. Also when feeling personally attacked. I have a friend, also a Secular Franciscan, who is dealing with an employee who is trying to cast some “voodoo” on her. It is very strange. He is from a country that practices voodoo religion. He sometimes wears a very large crucifix and behaves strange toward her. He has spoken to her angrily. We’ve been praying the St. Michael prayer.

I have had some blissful heaven sent dreams that I will be posting on my blog as I get around to it. God communicates with me often this way.

I prayed for you and all priests and seminarians while I was in adoration this evening. I prayed for protection from the evil spirits. The more you grow closer to God and doing His work, the more satan is upset.

    Peace and All Good
    Jan :) >+

  10. Wow! Fr Roderick, what a series of dreams! May God bless you abundantly. I want to live Catholic too! Will remember to pray for you too.

  11. Father, I love it when you spend a whole episode talking about an experience. It’s part of what makes the Daily Breakfast what it is.

  12. I’ve got serious (academic) reservations against ’symbolic’ dream interpretation too. It’s very tempting to try interpreting dreams like that, but it’s highly subjective too. Usually my colleagues in the field of clinical psychology try to avoid it, at least those trained in my university.

I think Fr. Roderick is spot on with his own interpretation. Praying for him and the Dutch Church. I heard from my priest he got a letter of concern regarding liturgy from the bishops conference. Maybe Fr. Roderick had a prophetic dream. :D

  13. Wait for my postcard freaky but God places people for me to pray for and he been prompting for me to pray for you so guess what I did. (even on holiday there are no day off when it comes to praying for friends or for that matter anything that need praying for!) unforutnately I can not get to the daily breakfast as I am away but I am back home tommorrow but the impression I get is that prayer would not go a miss my mum and dad have a very old computer which only types really and still has a disk drive that how old it is!

    Ephesian 6:10 – 19
It is my protection insurance it is the best armour any one can get really!

St Micheal and Benedict be with you and protect you and be with all people that we care about amen!

  14. Wow Father, i was scared by your dream! Off course I just happend to listen to that episode in bed before going to sleep, so that was very smart on my part :P
I hope you’ll have better dreams from now on! :)

  15. finally listened to episode 511
I had experiance where the devil attack my friends to try to get at me and it is scarey but luckily I had poeple praying for me too and it helpped. Gods given me a gift to pray for people when he prompts me and when people need it and boy do you need it. It is wierd gift but GOd is really blessing me by it.

Sometimes you have to have an outlet for the emotions GOd challenges throws at us for all you know you maybe supportting someone who is going through similar experiances.

    Many blessing
    and LOADS OF PRAYER

ST. Micheal and Benedict protect you

  16. Hi Anne. That is an awesome gift. I am highly sensitive to what is going on around me and how others are feeling. I do a lot of intercessory prayer.

  17. HI St Francis Girl. About the voodoo guy, don’t be surprised if he suddenly becomes very ill! Long ago a similar character, an islander, tried to cast something on me. I even got dizzy at a gathering where she stared, circled and chanted with candles. It was a wierd experience where she had invited me to her “small party” and not knowing at that time that she was against me, I attended. There were only men at the party!! Luckily I went with a dear honorable male friend who protected me and we left early. But it became very clear that she was weaving a spell as soon as I became dizzy. I immediately prayed intently and we left. Later I heard she became very ill and someone with knowledge of spells/curses said the curse can rebound if successfully dodged and great damage can occur to the culprit. St Michael will protect her. My prayers with her too. If she’s in a position to have him work under someone else, tell her to do so!
