  1. Hello Fr. Jay,
I just wanted to say I love your “electronic” ministry. I just listened to your ipadre podcast #121. I too utilize “Lectio Horizontalis” - that is saying my prayers in bed. After all did not the Lord ask us to pray at all times? I just wanted to add to your discussion of the Universalis.com service. I agree it is wonderful and opens to everyone the opportunity to participate in the Prayer of the Church. However, I would direct you to read the following in their Q&A section:
“I have an obligation to recite the Office. Can I use your site?
We are happy for you to do this. However, you should bear in mind that our versions of the texts are not all officially approved translations, and that some parts of the Liturgy (eg. responsories, antiphons, concluding prayers) are not yet present on the site. [The Bible texts are from the Jerusalem Bible, which is officially approved for liturgical use in the United Kingdom and possibly elsewhere.] How much this affects you is up to your conscience and to the conscience of those who imposed the obligation on you. You might feel that this site was a resource to be used in the absence of your breviary, but not as a substitute for it if you had it with you.”
As you can see, for us clergy who have an obligation to pray the office, the use of the Universalis version likely does not fully satisfy our requirements. However, there is an electronic alternative which has the approved American version available on the WEB. Because it does use copy written material there is a reasonable yearly fee. I am referring to ebreviary.com. You can download the pdf files for each liturgical hour and print it if you wish. I email the pdf to my iTouch and while at work I can shut my office door and recite my daytime prayer without lugging my breviary to work. It also works well while traveling. The great thing is that it is the full approved version. I love not having to do the “page shuffle” on feast days; I can just concentrate on the prayer. You can access Friday and Sunday prayers for free in order to give it a test drive. You and your podcast listeners may wish to check this out.
Thank you and May God continue to bless you in your exciting ministry!

  2. Dear Fr. Jay, in your excellent podcast you mentioned that it is a not a strange thing that a tongue communion is obligatory when the Eucharist is received from the Pope and not from a ‘ordinary’ priest. Would this not lead to us giving reference to the Pope/priest in stead of giving it the Body of Christ?

  3. Hi Fr. Jay — I have so enjoyed your soundseeing tour of the martyrs shrine. I had no idea we had a place like that in the U.S. I particulary liked the first episode where you were outside. I listened while I was on my lunchtime walk. As you were walking and reading the signs, I felt I was also walking along the trail.

Peace & All Good to You
