It does not have to be vented to outside, but you have to empty a water pan every few days. Might be a lot cheaper than super-cooling the rest of the house. You start it a half-hour or so before you need to be in the room. It worked quite well. We were in that condo from when the kids were 3 and 1, to when they were 18 and 16. We lived in close quarters, and it helped to make us a close-knit family.
