  1. This new format is fantastic. It has already become one of my favourite SQPN shows.

    Awesome, it’s so inspiring.

Keep up the great work !

  2. re: sweeteners and weight gain/loss: I used to do Atkins, and I recall something in his book about limiting sweeteners and counting them as if they were carbs.

Do you have any links to any of those studies you mentioned? I’m wondering if my sweetener for my coffee and tea — the European saccharin tablets that pop out the bottom of the container, I bought a bunch last time I was overseas — is doing in my weight loss attempts.

  3. There is a good herbal sweetener called Stevia that is worth looking at as a sugar substitute to artificial sweeteners.

  4. I would love it if you would do some shows on mental health, or just incorporate stuff about it here and there. So many of us Americans have trouble with depression and related issues, and I have trouble finding good info about this from a Catholic point of view.

  5. Hi Fr Roderick,

I am catching up on your Healthy Catholic podcasts and am enjoying them and the information you are giving.

Regarding sodas: I do some chemistry demonstrations in my spare time, and one of the demonstrations centre on density. I use a diet and regular soda for my demonstration. People are surprised at how dense a 12 oz can of soda is, but then again, considering that it contains per serving 40 g of sugar (or the equivalent of 10 packets of sugar), it is no surprise as to why drinking a lot of soda is not a good idea if you are trying to lose weight. Even the diet sodas could be deceptive: a 12 oz can of diet soda generally contains ca. 2 packets of sugar substitutes.

Thank you very much for these wonderful podcasts, and I look forward to more.

    Lyn
