Oh yes! Haven’t listened to todays DB yet but just the title got me excited!
I loved V when it first aired, even the TV series that followed wasn’t too bad. I hope they do a great job like with Battlestar Galactica and not ruin it like countless other remakes.
That is a pretty astute connection for a kid to make. On a deeper consideration, I am not too comfortable equating The Force with God. The fact that The Force has a dark side kind of defeats that analogy. It is more of a Buddhist Yin and Yang view of the universe with everything having good and evil in it. I once received a pamphlet from an evangelical pastor warning that Star Wars was anti-Christian because of this (sound familiar?). I can see that there are more themes in the saga that fit better into Christian beliefs, but not Lucas’ view of how The Force works.
I always thought of the Jedi as priests. (vow of celibacy, anyone?) Since reading Republic Commando, I have come to doubt the idea of celibacy for the sake of “the greater good” or for self-awareness as it is portrayed in the Star Wars universe. In the real world, Catholic men and women take vows of chastity for the love of God. In Star Wars, what object is there for love for the Jedi? This is a theme developed in RepCom with a rather pro-family message attached. It’s not preachy, but you can’t miss it.
There is a difference between the imaginary world of the Republic and our life on earth, but there is much to be learned, hmmm?
Has anyone read Hard Contact and Triple Zero, the first 2 books? Don’t just read the 1st, the story develops more fully in the 2nd.

New Star Trek movie producer/director J.J. Abrams gives glimpse of new ‘Star Trek’ film
Thursday October 16, 2008
J.J. Abrams is no Trekkie. The director and producer of the new “Star Trek” film, due in 2009, said he was always more of a “Star Wars” guy.
“All my smart friends liked ‘Star Trek.’ I preferred a more visceral experience,” he tells Entertainment Weekly in its latest issue, on newsstands Friday. Abrams took on the “Star Trek” project in hopes of creating a film “that grabbed me the way ‘Star Wars’ did,” he says.
He was also drawn to the franchise’s idealism, he says.
“I think a movie that shows people of various races working together and surviving hundreds of years from now is not a bad message to put out right now,” he says. “In a world where a movie as incredibly produced as ‘The Dark Knight’ is raking in gazillions of dollars, ‘Star Trek’ stands in stark contrast. It was important to me that optimism be cool again.”
“My only regret is that the movie can’t come out sooner,” says Leonard Nimoy, who will don his pointy ears to play an elder Spock. “I think the world could use it.”
The younger Spock, played by Zachary Quinto, says “Star Trek” is a franchise “that offers hope for unity.”
But don’t expect any unity with William Shatner. The actor won’t make a cameo as Capt. Kirk, Abrams says.
“I was such a huge fan of his, but we wrote a scene for him in the movie and it didn’t feel right,” Abrams says. “And he said to us he said publicly that doing a cameo didn’t interest him. Which I totally appreciate. But we did try.”

Hi father,
In response to your question about what series I would like to bring back. One of my favorites was Quantum Leap with Scott Bacula and Dean Stockwell. I loved the idea of being able to go back in time and fix things that went wrong. The posibilities are endless!!!!
