Father Roderick, I think that if something has to give, you could pass on the Ustream broadcast. I have never watched, and it doesn’t seem like you interact directly with Ustream on the Daily Breakfast like you do on SOHP. Record the show when you have the time… with your current workload, tailoring your broadcast time to serve a live audience is a luxury. Maximize the quality of your effort. We were happy for years with podcast-only availability. We can survive with it now. Thank you for all that you do.
Fr. Roderick,
I agree with Jomichael’s and your own comments about the utility of the Ustream broadcast. Using a great bit of technology just because it’s there, when it can be attended by so few and does violence to your schedule and your productivity is not the way to go. You are already overstretched and like you said burnout is a real danger. You can’t be creative when there is no time for reflection and without some downtime. The idea of getting a producer can help offload some of those nagging tasks. At some point it may come down to growth vs quality. I’d hate to see the latter become the victim of the former.
Father R. Three hours on a national network does not make a show better. The Daily Breakfast is and will always be better. Your enthusiasm is the key ingredient. Sure you can get a producer and all of that, to help you with your enormous workload, but that won’t make your show any better than it already is.
I agree with the others. The U stream is not for me because I am at work during that time frame. Since I work on an AIr Force base U stream is blocked. If the U stream only has 25-30 folks watching it may be the piece that needs to be dropped. But if it helps you Father keep it. God Bless you and all you do.
I’m just catching up with the Daily Breakfasts. I will admit that I like tagging along with the UStream, and I’ve just started doing so within your last two podcasts. But IMHO you should do what fits your timetable best.
In the meantime … are you aware that there have been three Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince trailer releases? You should have a look at them if you haven’t done so already …
I agree with the comments about UStream above. You need to record when it works best for you, and if that’s early in the morning then so be it, and when you’re just too busy or need to take a break, we can live without new shows for a bit. I remember thinking when you pre-recorded all those shows before your vacation that I wouldn’t have been upset if you had just mentioned that you were going away and to expect the next new show in about X number of days.
Is there an archive of older DB shows out there to tide us over in times like this? I know iTunes keeps them relatively current, so I don’t see any that are older than when I started listening last April. If not I’ll content myself with some other great SQPN shows.
If ever there was proof that, despite his protestations, George Lucas really didn’t plan out the entire Star Wars saga in advance, it probably comes in the shape of the discovery that, in 1978, Lucas told co-writers that Han Solo wasn’t destined to end up with Princess Leia… because he was a married man. Married to a wookie, that is. Stunningly, I’m not making this up.
This somewhat surprising development in Han Solo’s love life comes from a reputable source: the official Star Wars website itself, which is currently celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars Holiday Special by interviewing people involved in the ill-fated production. One of those people is screenwriter Lenny Ripps, who drops the bombshell when discussing Lucas’ involvement in the project:
To me, it didn’t come together. The ideas were all right but I’m not sure that they belonged in the same room. What was interesting to me was that Lucas started talking about Star Wars as if it was a real world. He said things like “Well, you know Han Solo is married to a Wookiee. but we can’t say that.” Now that was 20 years ago [in 1998], so my memory may be wrong.
According to starwars.com’s Ross Plesset, however, his memory is surprisingly good:
As outrageous as Ripps’s recollection sounds, there is evidence supporting it. Pat Proft corroborates it and an early draft of the Star Wars script (January 28, 1975) has Han Solo living with a furry female creature who he kisses. Proft also remembers learning that Han was raised by Wookiees, which is verified on pages 46 & 131 of Laurent Bouzereau’s Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays.
Admit it; you didn’t think the old rogue had it in him, did you? Somewhere out there, someone has already written the fanfic about what happened when Mrs. Solo came home after Return of The Jedi to see Han and Leia hooking up… and wanted to join in.

Father, where can you find out when you do the live Ustream broadcasts? What time? What dates?

@ Eric:
Just click on my name. There is no schedule. If Fr. Roderick will do a UStream broadcast, he will announce it there.
