  1. I’m probably late for saint jeopardy but I have many reasons to write this email.

    St. Patrick’s Mountain?
What is Mt Croach. People pilgrimmage to Mt. Croach on or around August 1. This was originally the time of a pagan harvest festival at the mountain. St. Patrick took this time to walk up the mountain and fast for 40 days thus turning the time a pagan festival into a Christian devotion.

Furthmore concerning a patron saint of Chemists. I would suggest Albertus Magnus (Albert the Great), Patron saint of Scientists. As doctoral student of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Iowa, I have a devotion to Albert the Great.

I was curious to know if you knew any new information on the status of Venerable Fr. Samuel Mazzuchelli. Being in Eastern Iowa this of local importace. St. Mary’s (my parish in Iowa City) was founded by Fr. Mazzuchelli as were several parishes in the region including what is now the Cathedral of the Dubuque diocesse.

Moving on…there is a movie you may appreciate. I think it is “the Third Miracle” starring Ed Harris and Ann Heche. Ed Harris is a priest that acts as a Devil’s Advocate. I don’t want to say too much, but he does struggle with his faith. It is a small market Art house flick, but respectfull of the faith.

  2. Great thoughts, Nick. I’ll research Fr. Mazzuchelli for you, a paisano at that! And I’ll see if I can find “The Third Miracle” somewhere and check it out. Thanks for the feedback.
