  1. Two caveats regarding the XP Mode for Windows 7:
#1) it is primarily intended for business users, so don’t expect this to work for games or sophisticated multimedia applications
#2) it requires hardware virtualization support in the CPU, something that is often missing from cheaper CPU models

  2. Hurray! Father R. talks baseball!

Ten Reasons Why Baseball is God’s Game
    http://faith-theology.blogspot.com/2007/05/ten-reasons-why-baseball-is-gods-game.html

Baseball is all about a *duel* between the hitter and the pitcher. Counting those pitches as strikes or balls is one reason why it works on radio (and thus, online while one *works* on the computer).

BTW, you should follow the *first* professional baseball team: Cincinnati Reds.

You can listen to baseball online @ MLB.com but there is a fee.

P.S. College football is better than professional football. But, we’ll save that for the fall. Peace!

  3. I highly recommend Legend of the Seeker as well. (It’s on Hulu…) It reminds me of The Legend of Zelda, one of the best video game series ever: a young man who learns of his special destiny, an Excalibur-like sword, a mysterious female companion, and a powerful sorcerer who must be defeated in order to save the world. (I would send you a copy of Twilight Princess for the Wii…but I think there’s a compatibility issue between the US and Europe.)

  4. I too enjoy the Legend of the Seeker series on TV, but please be warned. I read the 12 book “Sword of Truth” series, and was greatly diasappointed/distrbed. As the series drew to a conclusion, I kept feeling like the author, Terry Goodkind, was making jabs at religion. This bad feeling continued until the final book, which was more of a rant against organized religion.

The premise is that the evil religion, forces people to abadon magic, in order to enslae them into a superstitios and corrupting belief in a “creator”. I was utterly appalled when I finished the final book “Confessor”. I did not read the Golden Compass books, but this appears to be a page from the same.

Ill leave with a quote from the final chapter of “Confessor”

“…they turned to superstition and a grim, fatalistic acceptance of the misery of life and its accompanying devotion to their faitth…it seemed easier for them to go along than to question, to accept prepackaged beliefs than to think for themselves”.

If you like this type of high fantasy (minus the Atheist overtones) I would highly recommend the Wheel of Time series. Its author, the late Robert Jordan, was a devout Christian, and his books expertly reflect that.

    God Bless,
    Zack

  5. I second Inge’s recommendation of “Karol”. I loved it. Though I have to admit some of my friends found it a bit melodramatic. The film with John Voight was one of two network mini-series/movies that came out right after JPII’s death. In my opinion both were merely crude attempts at capitalizing on the late Pope’s popularity.

  6. I have been gone and have not caught up to the latest DB. Can anyone tell me if Fr. R. is taking a vacation, or? No DB since May 1st… Luckily I have a small cache of 4 or 5 episodes to catch up on.

  7. @Eamonn No, I’m not on vacation. I just have a somewhat stressful week with low energy levels and lots of other work that needs my attention. I’ll be back soon.
