WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL!

After 12 hours of continuous podcasting, Catholic podcasters from all over the world raised the final $10,000 needed to fund the new media evangelization efforts of the Star Quest Production Network.

During the 2009 Giving Campaign, listeners and viewers brought together $125,000, enabling the network to continue to produce audio and video programs that reach and touch tens of thousands of people on a daily basis.

Fr. Roderick, Inge and Mark
The 2009 Podcast Marathon started in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Fr. Roderick Vonhogen and Dutch listeners Inge and Mark presented a number of activities that ranged from singing karaoke favorites to a special high intensity workout lead by Fr. Roderick. During the ‘Horror Smoothie Challenge’, viewers could sponsor ingredients for two special smoothies. This resulted in a Yoghurt/banana/Cheese/Olive/Garlic smoothie and a Milk/Oreo/Kiwi/Tuna/chili pepper/Tabasco smoothie. Both were consumed live during the marathon.

Mac and Katherine
Mac and Katherine Barron in Georgia took over with a live episode of their popular podcast ‘Catholic in a Small Town’.

The Sweeney Family
From Georgia, the marathon moved to Texas, where the Sweeney family entertained the audience by dancing in Lederhosen and juggling kittens.

Paul Camarata
Dr. Paul Camarata followed after that with a special two-hour SaintCast session. Dr. Paul dressed up as some of the favorite saints of members of the audience.

Greg and Jennifer
Greg and Jennifer, hosts of ‘The Catholics Next Door’ on the Catholic Channel (Sirius/XM) appeared next, singing songs on request and sharing stories about their Catholic media work.

Fr. Jay Finelli and Lisa Hendey
Fr. Jay Finelli, the iPadre, and Lisa Hendey joined forces for the next hour of the Catholic Podcast Marathon.

Louisa Pittman
From California, the Marathon switched over to the United Kingdom. SQPN community member Louisa Pittman from the Accidental Archeologist podcast was up early in the morning to tell stories about her many adventures and sing sailor songs.

The Finish Line
Fr. Roderick was up early as well for the last hour of the Podcast Marathon, singing songs from the Sound of Music, the Beatles and Frank Sinatra. During that last hour, the tally reached the $10,000 goal. Fr. Roderick wrapped up the campaign and the marathon with a prayer of thanksgiving and blessing for the entire SQPN community.

  1. And now, get some sleep already! ;)

Congratulations! SQPN really is a community. It is very nice to see that. And so, even this rainy Monday morning tastes good in the office.

  2. Oh GOOD! I now know I have been nauseous during the first part of the night for a good cause. Man were those smoothies GROSS. I must have saved a lot of souls in Purgatory together with Mark. W00t

  3. Yeah, I had stomach problems as well – although it could also have been the pizza I ate earlier that evening. I’m not used to junk food anymore :)

  4. Hmm.. I had only a small pizza, but that last smoothie kept coming up. I can tack that one my bucket list: had weird smoothies, a once in a lifetime experience :P

  5. By the way, you forgot to mention the potatoes in the first smoothie.

  6. Great job Fr. Roderick and all the SQPN podcasters involved in the marathon! Keep up the great work!

(check out the top right hand corner of my website–link on my name/photo–I promoted SQPN with a link to a SQPN flyer and sqpn.com! So, I hope and pray that people who visit my website will click on the link that I posted for more information about SQPN and your website!)

  7. Congratulation on making the goal, looking forward to another great year of podcasting. The second smoothie made me nauseous just thinking about it.

  8. Congrats SQPN – It seems like there were some very generous folks in the final few minutes (maybe they could no longer take Fr. R. singing the Beatles as Kermit the Frog). In any case, well done to all of you – The SQPN podcasters, the SQPN staff, the SQPN volunteers and all those who support SQPN with donations from the wallet and the heart!

May 2009 be the best year yet!

  9. Congratulations, Fr. to you and SQPN! You and all the podcasters, special guests and those behind the scenes did a wonderful job!
It was a lot of fun-I was really laughing hard during some of those hours! It was great for community spirit, too. I look forward to the CNMC. Hope you can get a lot more sleep tonight!
    Take care!
    Bonita

  10. Congrats SQPN! Happy I was a part of this!

  11. Congratulations! I am behind the podcasts, so I did not know about the Marathon. Sorry!

  12. May I remind you that some of us are carrying over $125,000 in change… ;)

  13. Darn, that kindof-Toy Story 2-quote was supposed to be wrapped in “Voice of John Ratzenberger”-tags.

  14. Congrats!!! Look forward to another good year

  15. We are glad to see SQPN reach its goal. God bless all of the podcasters and listeners ! We feel blessed to be a part of the communnity.
