"Mac" as the"the world" knows "him" is actually a cybernetic artificial sweetener intelligence from a dimension that we in our "world" share a pay toilet with on the Champs de Ellysses. "We" still aren't exactly sure why "he" ends up on a podcast most weeks. It's a mystery!

  1. Katherine, did I hear you talk about getting a baby carrier at Target? Before you get one you may want to see if there are babywearing groups around you. It’s where people can exchange/borrow/sell baby slings and other types of carriers.

You should also check out thebabywearer.com and see reviews.

There are 5 types of carriers: ring slings, pouches, Asian baby carriers (ABCs for short), soft structured carriers (usually have buckles) and wraps (which are just a long piece of woven, breathable fabric.

Not all baby slings are the same. There are distinct differences – like the Over-The-Shoulder-Baby-Holder is very padded and it can get in the way of adjustability. Pouches can be adjustable or fitted (so you have to carefully measure).

A carrier that is poorly designed will cost you so much more in money and backpain. It is best to get 1-2 carriers that will suit your needs. And a number of good quality slings can retain their value nicely.

I won’t go into too much detail but here are brands to avoid: Over-Shoulder-Baby-Holder, Ultimate Baby Wrap, Baby Bjorn. I would also avoid pouches that are not adjustable (like Hotslings). If you do more than one type of carrier (kangaroo and hip) you will need different amounts of material. Wraps are probably the most versatile, but they have a very high learning curve. It is the only carrier I do not have in my stash. I used to, but I didn’t like all that material.

I am probably going to bring a few carriers to the CNMC so let me know if you want to check them out. You can even borrow if you would like. My most used carriers are a Sakura Bloom ring sling and Beco soft structured carrier. I also have a pouch and ABC.
