Catholic Moments #104 – Halo Day

This week, we feature three special books from Halo Publishing International and their wonderful authors.  In I am a Vivor Leona Ashley writes about her daughter Abigail who has survived and flourished despite having her arm amputated in infancy. Crista Stewart wrote The Little Frog to help children understand to accept themselves and others just as God made them. Tina Schneider and Anna Discenzo and the students of The Montessori School at Holy Rosary collaborated on Remembering DRemembering D is a poignant story of a young man named Demetrius Cameron-Lee Smith who made such a deep and permanent impression on so many hearts in his short lifetime that a book was written in his honor by his classmates and teacher. The bittersweet compilation of words, photographs and illustrations is dedicated to Demetrius, a brain cancer victim whose life was claimed at the tender age of twelve but who was an inspiration to all he met through his courage, zest for life and faith in God.

  1. Deacon Tom is great! I love the fact that he is focusing on marriage. My 33 year marriage with Nancy has been an adventure with twists and turns along the way but we still try to keep it fresh. These reflections sure do help.

  2. Loved the “Interview with the Deacons” podcast. My uncle is a permanent deacon and I don’t think I have thought about asking any of those questions. I also didn’t realize the impact of speaking negatively about a bishop to a deacon and the role of vows in that relationship/conversation and putting the deacon in a tight spot.
Thank you for the great music….I am enjoying it right now!!

  3. Hi Lisa, Just have to enter… I have been sorely missing my CM podcast… for some reason my ipod usb cable is not very happy!! Cannot seem to even get it to appear in itunes. Very frustrating! Anyways, looking forward to listening more once I get the ipod issues ironed out :) . Oh, and thank you for mentioning the Catholic MN Homeschool Conference last week… it was a great conference!!

  4. Hi Lisa. Please enter me in the Catholic Marriage book contest.
And thank you Deacon Tom for sponsoring this contest. :)

  10. I am excited about the month-long series on the sacrament of marriage. I recently got engaged and this will help as we prepare for this beautiful sacrament. I have learned SO much from your podcasts and can’t wait to learn more. Thank you! God Bless!

  11. My wife and I would like to be entered for the marriage book giveaway. We have been married for almost 4 years. We have two sons ages 3 years and 11 months. We’re always in need of more insight in to marriages since we’re still relatively new to our vocation.

  12. We would be honored to receive any of these great books on marriage.

  13. I will catch up on the podcasts over the next few days. I think it’s great to dedicate a month on marriage. Unfortunately the word marriage has been minimalized by Hollywood types who use it for a publicity stunt. Today, young adults are choosing to live together instead of making a committment through marriage. I’m very happy that my daughter has been happily married for six years and my son is engaged to be married next year. If I win a book, I plan to read it and pass it on to our children.

  14. Thanks for playing Nick and I’s promo, we really appreciate it! Look forward to seeing you at the CNMC!
