Thanks for sharing your thoughts when you were lying on the floor during your ordination! ;) When my collegue got married, one of the rings fell and the crowded church sighed: "Whooops ...!" The ring was found again surprisingly quickly, though! :) So many other things could go wrong on the day, that's supposed to be the most beautiful day of one's life :D But you're so right: this first day is just the start of an entirely new state of life. And one has to grow into that. This is true, whatever one's vocation is - whether marriage or the priesthood.

And your review of 'Britain’s Biggest Loser' made me ROTFLMAO! Especially this one: "Hey, it's in the Bible" ... Good excuse, I'll try that one the next time I'll be at your place for confession :D

I thought this was one of the funniest episodes in a long time -- despite your "hoarse". (and what a great photo.) I wonder where you get your photos you use for each episode.

All the best with your Marathon preparations. Let us know how you do!

May God keep you in the palm of his hand! Thank you for being there for us.

Thanks Fr. Roderick for the Ordination feedback. It was awesome! It helped me better cope with the disappointment I sometimes feel with myself when at certain times my human frailties prevent me from fully engaging with the spiritual activities I pursue. Whether it is just daily prayer or a very austere spiritual setting, I never underestimate my ability to be distracted by thinking or worries. Its nice to know that you have experienced that too, and that it does not detract from the significance of these events.

Fr. Roderick... Your vocation story is, of course, very interesting, however your ordination day story struck a nerve because of the fact that it sounded very very familiar.

My ordination took place 23 years ago last Sunday (June 7th) and like you, I had attended the ordination of some of my friends and was very moved, especially by the Litany of Saints as well as the "Veni Sanctae Spiritu".

However, also like you, on the day of my ordination I was worrying about the people who were visiting from out of town, my spiritual director who had come over 500 miles to be there, family, friends etc. We they all comfortable, were they going to be able to follow the directions and find the Cathedral, etc. etc.

Laying on that floor, I thought to myself how the marble was very cold and comfortable, but I worried I would trip on my alb when I stood up...

Then at my First Mass, I worried about getting it all right and not messing up.

Over these past 23 years I have sometimes found myself just going through the motions, thinking about other things, problems, deadlines, being tired, etc. But more often than not, I too think to myself, what if this is my last Mass.

Thanks for sharing your story!

I just did a search and think that Father was referring to episodes 284, 285, 288 and 291 of the Daily Breakfast. Here is the link to 284: http://sqpn.com/2007/04/11/daily-breakfast-284/

I found these by putting "daily vocation" in the SQPN search box (http://sqpn.com/?s=daily+vocation&submit=Go). There lot of other episodes that have "vocation" in the show notes so you may want to listen to them as well. :)

God Bless!

PS - I noticed that the embedded audio players on the page that lists the Daily Breakfast (http://sqpn.com/category/talk-and-interview/daily-breakfast/) are all broken. I don't know if this is a bug in the site but I thought I'd mention it just in case it is.
