Hi,

thanks for putting time and effort in producing so many cool podcasts!

In Germany a very cute commercial is shown in cinemas in front of the new Harry Potter movie. It's about a very friendly, nature-loving giant (the new mascot of an energy company).

You can find it on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhMV0e_cFAI&feature=related

I can recommend it to all people who love animated films. The producers really did a good job!

Have a nice day!

Dear Father Roderick,

As always I appreciate your comments in defense of the Harry Potter series. Thanks for another enjoyable podcast.

With regards to the new Harry Potter film, I agree with danshaku's comments above. I hope John Williams returns to compose the score for the final film. Hooper's score just isn't on the level of Williams or Doyle. I was also disappointed in the film's omission of many of my favorite scenes from the book.

You and your listeners may be interested in a new book that was just published by Outskirts Press called "The Lord of the Hallows: Christian Symbolism and Themes in J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter." As you may have guessed from the title, the book favorably compares Harry Potter with The Lord of the Rings. I am the author of this book and a Roman Catholic. I think you will agree with my theological viewpoint and my analysis of both works. Please visit www.outskirtspress.com/thelordofthehallows for more information.

Thanks again for another great podcast!

Sincerely,

Denise Roper

Enjoyed the podcast as usual, but I must point out that organic meat is no different nutritionally from other processed meats. The benefit is that cattle are fed feed that is grown without pesticides and the cattle themselves are given no antibiotics or other medications.

Too much organic meat contributes to high cholesterol and clogged arteries just like regular meat.

Thanks for all you do.

I still wonder how you managed to get him on the show. Do you know Mgr. Gänswein? Or Cardinal Burke, or Brtone? Or perhaps his brother Georg Ratzinger – who is, by the way, the Holy Uncle. (As brother of the Holy Fater.)

Father Roderick, this was really cool! I listened to it again and again, just shaking for laughter!

Just watched Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.
Here are my first impressions (without spoilers):

Unlike the previous one (OOTP) this one is worth watching, although I think it could (or rather - should) have been a lot better.

One of the main weak points is once again the music.
Nicholas Hooper's score is truly lacking the magic that John Williams and Patrick Doyle have brought to the first four films.
And speaking of lack of magic: there are several scenes which could have benefited tremendously from the characters wearing wizard robes instead of muggle attire.

Several of the strongest scenes from the book were unfortunately (and predictably) absent, including my favorite scene from the entire series.
Thumbs up, though, for the "romantic comedy"-side of the movie and the much improved cinematography.

Nearing the end of the series, one has to wonder what it takes to do these amazing books truly justice.
As it stands now, Lord of the Rings is a masterpiece both on paper and screen (despite all cuts and changes), whereas HP is merely the former.

Grade: B-

Fr. Roderick,
I love your Pope Benedict impression! :D
That was really awesome.
As a loyal listener of Vatican Radio (and SQPN podcasts of course),
I just couldn't stop laughing after listening to your Pope Benedict impression!
