  1. I absolutely *love* “Up” and I have seen it five times in theaters so far.
This is like Indiana Jones 4 done right – a marvelous adventure film and then some.
How Pixar managed to combine deeply emotional scenes and serious issues with light-hearted comedy and action sequences is truly Oscar-worthy.

Both “Up” and “Coraline” are also two perfect examples of animation transcending the usual “Kid-stuff” category.
“Up” is a film for everyone, and “Coraline” is not for kids at all, in my opinion.

It has to do with Vegemite…

  3. Hi, Father Roderick! ¡Hola, Padre Rodrigo!

This is Antonio, writing from Valencia, in Spain. I do love your podcast!

“Are There Animals in Heaven?”, asks the great catholic philosopher Peter Kreeft in “Every Thing You Ever Wanted to Know About Heaven” (Ignatius Press), and he answers:

“The simplest answer is: Why not? How irrational is the prejudice that would allow plants… but not animals into Heaven! Much more reasonable is CS Lewis’ speculation that we will be “between the angels who are our elder brothers and the beasts who are our jesters, servants, and playfellows”. Scripture seems to confirm this… Animals belong in the “new earth” as much as trees”.

For the full answer, you’ll have to buy the book : ) I don’t want to copy&paste the complete chapter.

Further reading: chapter 8 of “The Problem of Pain”, by CS Lewis, a wonferful chapter of a wonderful book. BTW, there is a podcast by Kreeft about this book. Look for it… it’s veeery good.

Further reading 2: “Do Dogs Go To Heaven?”, by M.J. Holmes (Joipax Publishing). I haven’t read it yet, but it has a cool cover… my daughters love it!

    God Bless,

    Antonio

PD: why don’t you learn spanish, come to Spain and become my parish priest? You would enjoy it! Warm weather and mediterranean food: what else do you need? :)
