I am so with you on this topic. And feel free to change from “The Netherlands” and put “Germany” into your rant. It is the same over here. And it is even the same with Catholics.
I think there is nothing we can to against this ignorance than to stand up for the truth as you did.
Father Roderick… Your “rant” was certainly “right on”!!! In this day and age of soundbites it is amazing how many people who “think” they are informed, are really not. People blame the church for just about everything and no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions.
On a completely different subject, I am reminded of when I took my niece to see The Empire Strikes Back in 1980(?). This was the ONLY theater in town that had this “surround” sound and they played Star Wars music before the movie began, and when the 20th Century Fox music, and picture came up on the screen everyone began cheering.
Fr. Roderick, I really appreciate your “rant”. You are one zealous priest!
I was one of the victims of misinformation regarding the Church’s position on AIDS and sexuality. Thanks be to God, that He opened up my mind to listen to the Pope’s teaching in the last few years. Now the Church and I are totally on the same page!
I totally agree with you, father. We Catholics have to be out there using whatever means possible to spread the message of the beauty of true love and chastity.
Spot on, Father. Here’s further proof for you:

Funny, how the mainstream media doesn’t seem to catch such stories…
I heard your ‘rant’ about condoms in Africa and watched that Dutch TV show. You did a very good job and I couldn’t agree with you more! Next to the people yelling at you in cyberspace and calling you names, I found also remarks from non-believers, who said they don’t agree with you, but appreciate the way you talk about the faith and the Church.
Here’s a “hart onder de riem” for you (it’s in Dutch)
You deserved it!
Mmm, a link that won’t work … Let’s try again
The ungoing war on the Catholic Church, dear father is not unique. I am sure that you well aware of the fact that ‘the public’ uses every possible event to accuse christianity, or better said Religion.
People don’t want to be informed…they love to shout and put the blame somewhere. It is so good that someone like you talks in this open and ‘down to earth’ way. (I hope you don’t take that as an offense, being in your line of business…)
I am not even a catholic (yet) but I am going to try to do my best to get the message across in my way an my small circle!
Hey Fr. Roderick,
Watched DWDD, (strange to hear you speak Dutch, instead of English, what i am used to
) and listened to this 700′th episode of the daily breakfast (congrats btw) And I am again ashamed of our own people. The Dutch are sometimes so naive and short minded. But its because of the media how we became like this (i think). The media is yelling, it such short message media nowadays, everything is ripped out of proportions. No one really wants to know the deeper thing behind curtain statements, and when we hear something the first thing we do is to get a (negative) verdict of that news.
I’m glad that I ,as a non-catholic, now know how the catholic church looks at those problems in Africa. don’t know it all yet, but have a much better view on it, then before this episode. tnx for that.
Father, I can understand your frustration, the Church needs to step up her information programs. No one should be in doubt of the Churches position on social teachings, and why she holds these positions.
It is a shame that society makes accusition after accusition, slur after slur against the Church, and there is no clear positive response from the Church. Yes the Church’s response is out there for those who are looking for it, but the Church needs to in the spotlight saying clearly and definitively what She teaches and why She does.
I think there have been big strides towards this end in recent years, but there is still a need for a more stratgic information policy.
I’m so glad you had the courage to stand up to that interviewer, Father. Thanks for speaking for all of us. And you never know, it may even have changed a few minds (and hearts).
in the us it is also terrible–we have the catholic defense league/bill donohue and until i heard about him
and his work i had no idea it was so terrible. the church is always under attack and so we have to be
alert and ready. wish i could say i always have been but i have not and so i now am trying to be more aware.
WOW! is this ever a super interesting subject for a future show and a preview here for web comment readers:
Vatican Holds Conference on Extraterrestrial Life
Written by Nicholos Wethington
Though it may seem an unlikely location to happen upon a conference on astrobiology, the Vatican recently held a “study week” of over 30 astronomers, biologists, geologists and religious leaders to discuss the question of the existence of extraterrestrials. This follows the statement made last year by the Pope’s chief astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, that the existence of extraterrestrials does not preclude a belief in God, and that it’s a question to be explored by the Catholic Church. The event, put on by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, took place at the Casina Pio IV on the Vatican grounds from November 6-11…

Dear Roderick,
I saw you on De wereld draait door and I wish Matthijs van Nieuwkerk would have let you finish. I took the freedom to promote your show on in the comments on their website. I hope more people will listen to your podcast about aids and other problems with sexuality in Africa, because it really makes sense.
I think we need more young people to speak up for a different kind of sexual morality in The Netherlands as well. I have been used as an object myself inside an relationship and therefore I know how painful and humiliating that is. A therapist told me that the way this man behaved was ‘normal’ and I shouldn’t make such a big deal out of it. I was diagnosed with PTSD a few years later anyway. I can only imagine how it must be to live in Africa and to experience everyday to be considered nothing.
We need to learn people how to deal with sexuality and how to canalize it. You know that our Calvinistic repressive approach can work all wrong too. I’m trying to tell people that sex is still a big issue in our society. If it was normal, people wouldn’t be so secretive about it, make jokes about it, etc.
I’m 26 and not even a Catholic.
So you can even find opinions like this outside the church.
I hope you read this and maybe you can find the time to react. I would really appreciate that.
Lara
Anyone know what happened to Fr. Roderick and The Daily Breakfast? I’ve noticed that it has been “off the air” for a while now,but I haven’t heard anything…is he on another trip?
