Lucas announces Star Wars in 3D

The entire Star Wars film saga is to be converted into 3D, director George Lucas has announced. A statement on the Star Wars website said: “The cutting edge conversion will take that immersion to the next thrilling level.” The first 3D Star Wars movie is scheduled for 2012.

What do you think? Is this exciting news for Star Wars fans, or just another way to have them pay again for the same movies they already bought many times before? Is George Lucas right to focus on 3D, or are there other aspects of the Star Wars movies he could improve upon? Post your comments below!

I have been a Star Wars fans for many years and I pretty much have looked forward to Star Wars coming to the cinemas in 3D for a long time.

And now we have this announcement. And I don’t care. Why is that?

Well, Star Wars was best, when George Lucas had to deal with technical difficulties and limitations. I think that he never ever was able to get back to the phenomenal quality of the “old” trilogy. Since he is playing with all the new shiny tech toys, his movies have lost everything that made them specials. I don’t like the prequels very much.

To be honest: nothing lets me dive into a story like a book does. If a story is really good and told in a capturing way, there is no need to get the latest effects or 3D. And if a story is bad, 3D won’t help to make it better.

I have the fear that this 3D transition might harm the old movies. To my mind, he should just leave those old masterpieces alone.

I am looking forward to the Blu-ray release of all movies in Fall 2011. I don’t really care that much about the 3D release, though.

Great! Now all they have to do is make episodes VII, VIII, and IX, and I can quote, “Lord, now Your servant can go in peace, Your word has been fulfilled!”

I personally think this is going to be dissapointing. Maybe the new trilogy (episode I-III) can pull this of a little bit because most of it is CG generated (which I presume is easier to convert to a 3d image). The old Trilogy (episode IV-VI) is mostly not CG generated (although there are a few scenes which are CG in the rereleases). I think it wil be harder to get the 3d effect done right in the older movies.

Ofcourse I want to see it when it’s released but a will probably be dissapointed.

In my endless hours of trying to figure out an escape from my current job, one of the ideas I had was to remote consultant to help more parishes get online, even if only simple content like contact information, maps and schedules. But I can’t think of a way to make it anything but volunteer work. Anybody got any ideas on how to monetize such a thing? especially since all parishes are strapped for cash?

Our parish has a website and also uses Constant Contact. Our website is is very nice looking but content poor. It is very rarely updated. We are currently looking into upgrading the site. Constant Contact is an e-mail notice subscription service. Parishioners sign up for on various lists (general parish news, rel ed news, Liturgy news,…) and receive regular updates – usually one a week. It is a double opt-in system, so we cannot just feed it e-mail addresses. Getting people to sign-up has been difficult. Our youth ministry program has a Facebook page and I am in the process of creating a Facebook fan page for our Rel Ed office.

      Hi,

I was particularly pleased to read Bishop Van Looy’s statement about the Belgian Church’s recognition of the importance of new media as a means of spreading the Good News. It is really great to see some positive news from the Catholic Church in Belgium after all the problems it has faced.

Perhaps SQPN and it’s listeners could be of assistance?

      All the best,

      Jim Gordon

      Hi, Cathy,

That sounds like a very interesting theory… and considering that in canon, Hermione had the portrait of Phineas Nigellus Black, if Dumbles can travel between the book cover and his portrait at Hogwarts, it might be a viable theory.

      Thanks for your feedback! :)

Hi! I am SO glad I found you. I’m a Catholic parent who is more of a Harry Potter fan than my teenagers, so it was great to find that not only were you all grown-ups, you were also Catholic!

Just a theory on how Snape found Harry & Hermione in the woods in the DH movie: Hermione is reading “The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore” when she mentions the Forest of Dean; I suspect they’ll use Dumbledore’s photo on the cover of that book to communicate with Snape. What do you think?
