Catholic Moments #126 – Mary Kay Hoal, Yoursphere.com

Conceived and founded by Mary Kay Hoal, Yoursphere is the first social networking service for youth that parents can embrace. Drawing on her corporate entrepreneurial experience as a media strategist, advertising, marketing and publishing VP formerly with CMP Media LLC, Mary Kay built the Yoursphere team. A proud wife and mother of five children (both biological and adopted, ranging in age from 4-17 years old), Mary Kay Hoal faces the same challenges every parent does: keeping her kids safe; raising them to be good, happy and well-balanced people; and providing them with the tools and support to create their own future. While Mary Kay readily admits that she didn’t “get” the whole online social networking phenomenon at first, she quickly recognized its importance in her kids’ lives. After researching the disturbing landscape of social networking sites—including endless inappropriate content and thousands of predators targeting youth—Mary Kay’s mission became clear: raise the bar. Michael St. Pierre is the host of a wonderful blog entitled The Daily Saint, where he works to promote the spirituality of work. Mike is the president of Morris Catholic High School in Denville, New Jersey. Previously, he served as the Dean of Students at Oratory Preparatory School and was the lead campus minister at two other Catholic high schools. He is a graduate of Catholic University of America (B.A.) and Seton Hall University (M.A. Theology, M.A. Educational Leadership). His articles have appeared in numerous publications, and he has been a featured speaker at the Education Law Institute, the National Catholic Education Association Convention as well as numerous retreats.

The lyrics have things that will give both age groups something to enjoy and share. My goal is to have songs that are enjoyed by both adult and child, although often for different reasons.”

Now at age 31 Jerry has grown into a proud Catholic with more conservative values than he would have ever imagined. Struggling to be a better Catholic, on top of dealing with anxiety and depression issues, Jerry shares his story on how God and the Church have and will continue to transform his life, how dealing with an anxiety disorder has affected his spiritual life, and how others can learn from his story.

Remembering D is a poignant story of a young man named Demetrius Cameron-Lee Smith who made such a deep and permanent impression on so many hearts in his short lifetime that a book was written in his honor by his classmates and teacher. The bittersweet compilation of words, photographs and illustrations is dedicated to Demetrius, a brain cancer victim whose life was claimed at the tender age of twelve but who was an inspiration to all he met through his courage, zest for life and faith in God.
