Conceived and founded by Mary Kay Hoal, Yoursphere is the first social networking service for youth that parents can embrace. Drawing on her corporate entrepreneurial experience as a media strategist, advertising, marketing and publishing VP formerly with CMP Media LLC, Mary Kay built the Yoursphere team. A proud wife and mother of five children (both biological and adopted, ranging in age from 4-17 years old), Mary Kay Hoal faces the same challenges every parent does: keeping her kids safe; raising them to be good, happy and well-balanced people; and providing them with the tools and support to create their own future. While Mary Kay readily admits that she didn’t “get” the whole online social networking phenomenon at first, she quickly recognized its importance in her kids’ lives. After researching the disturbing landscape of social networking sites—including endless inappropriate content and thousands of predators targeting youth—Mary Kay’s mission became clear: raise the bar. Yoursphere is a terrific online community where kids and teens connect, share and inspire — all in a place the puts Internet safety first. Parents can relax while kids and teens have fun.

A visit to a U. S. military cemetery near Florence Italy is the fodder for this week’s Deacon Moment with Deacon Tom Fox. Tom suggests we applaud all our veterans and to pray for them on this, their special day.

Sarah Reinhard’s struggling with prayer, and her Mary Moment reflection this week includes a quote from Mother Teresa’s Secret Fire: The Encounter That Changed Her Life and How It Can Transform Your Own, by Joseph Langford, and thoughts on tapping into Mary’s desire to help us succeed.

Peggy Bowes is a former Air Force pilot who left the military to raise and homeschool her two children. Peggy’s lifelong enthusiasm for fitness led her to bocome certified as an aerobics instructor, personal trainer and Lifestyle and Weight Management consultant. Her devotion to our Blessed Mother and her great prayer, the Rosary, inspired Peggy to create the Rosary Workout and to share this devotion with others. Be sure to head over and leave a comment on our Rosary Workout Book Contest Post for your chance to win a copy of the Rosary Workout.

Have you seen the play or the movie “The Man For All Seasons?” In it, Sir Thomas More introduces us to a silence that loudly speaks the Truth. Does our silence or do our actions speak loudly? This Deacon Tom reflection invites us to consider Thomas More as we head towards Respect Life Sunday.

This week, Sarah Reinhard challenges you to think of Mary as a blankie, and you’ll get some history of Our Lady of Walsingham too! (Note: much of this material originally appeared in Sarah’s column on Our Lady of Walsingham at Today’s Catholic Woman.)

On this week’s show, we learn more about the great organization ENDOW from Co-founder, Executive Director, and Chief Editor of the ENDOW Study Guides, Terry Polakovic. Terry shares with us the mission of ENDOW and its ministry of bringing women together to discover their God-given dignity and to understand their role in humanizing and transforming society. Founded in 2003, ENDOW has grown from an idea into an international women’s ministry. Over 5,400 women have participated in ENDOW study groups in the last six years.

How’s this for being bold? Deacon Tom says he’s doing a Plug for Jesus. What do you think? By the way, have you been to Adoration lately?

This week, Sarah Reinhard has a prayer from Our Lady of Akita. You can learn more about Our Lady of Akita at the summary page at EWTN, or you can read about the miracles and drama in the more in-depth coverage at Mary Pages and Catholic Tradition.

My special guest for this week’s podcast is Father Robert Barron. This month, we are encouraging your support of Father Barron’s latest project, Catholicism. Please consider a donation of any size and join us in praying for Father Barron and his team. Father Robert Barron is a sought-after speaker on the spiritual life-from prestigious universities to YouTube to national conferences and private retreats. The prominent theologian and podcasting priest is one of the world’s great and most innovative teachers of Catholicism. His global media ministry called Word on Fire has a simple but revolutionary mission – to evangelize the culture.

In today’s Deacon Moment, Deacon Tom tells of a mysterious August snowfall that outlined the grounds for this 4th century Basilica of St. Mary Major. It is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary and is one of five great and grand Churches of Rome.

Mary is our example in many things, including prayer. This week, Sarah Reinhard uses a quote from Joseph Langford’s book Mother Teresa: In the Shadow of Our Lady to guide us toward using Mary as our guide and example. Read Sarah’s review of Mother Teresa: In the Shadow of Our Lady.

Our special guest for this week’s show is Woodeene Koenig-Bricker, author of Ten Commandments for the Environment: Pope Benedict XVI Speaks Out for Creation and Justice.

This noted and Catholic journalist skillfully weaves together Pope Benedict’s key statements on environmental justice into one volume. Additionally, she offers commentary that helps to unpack the Ten Commandments for the Environment, which were recently released by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. Woodeene helps us understand how a commitment to being environmentally responsible blends with our Catholic faith and offers suggestions for building this lifestyle within our families.

We begin a series of monthly reflections on the Year of the Priest. In today’s reflection, Deacon Tom invites us to consider that priests are a manifestation of the love of Christ, and that priests are the gloves that God uses to touch us.

In this week’s Mary Moment, Sarah Reinhard reflects on Mary as a baby person, inspired by the experience of her brother’s new son.

Jerry Weber is a California and San Diego County native. Jerry is a former liberal who spent most of his teenage years mixed up with drugs and a very dysfunctional home life. Feeling called by God to turn his life around at 17, Jerry — a lifelong Catholic — found himself attending Mass and graduating high school a semester early. Now at age 31 Jerry has grown into a proud Catholic with more conservative values than he would have ever imagined. Struggling to be a better Catholic, on top of dealing with anxiety and depression issues, Jerry shares his story on how God and the Church have and will continue to transform his life, how dealing with an anxiety disorder has affected his spiritual life, and how others can learn from his story.

Justin has been described with the following words: ‘Fatica has an electric presence in front of groups large and small, showing an emotional range from joy to anger, calmness to fervent pleas. His passionate, if unorthodox tactics have been remarkably successful in reaching teens and young adults. He has keen insights into the struggles of today’s young people that will prove eye-opening to your listeners.”

Deacon Tom Fox shares a reflection entitled Rembrandt and Reconciliation urging confession for all during this Lenten season. Please consider SQPN during this year’s Giving Campaign and help us share the faith with new media. Share your feedback at 206-339-9272, comment here on the blog or email lisa@catholicmom.com.
