It’s time. Time to bring out the puppies. Why?

Since the start of our giving campaign we have asked for your support to be able to continue another year of evangelization via new media. SQPN has been able to reach tens of thousands of people thanks to the financial support and the prayers of its listeners and visitors. Countless lives have been changed over the years, and you have written us touching letters about the importance of the SQPN programs and community in your life.

Many people have already given. But not everyone. In fact, only 2% of the total amount of people we reach have reacted with a generous donation. We still need $25,000 to continue, but time is running out. Only ONE WEEK left to raise the remainder. So that’s why it’s time to bring out the puppies. They are much better at this fund raising stuff than I am.

Have you ever wanted to know more about praying the psalms? It turns out that there’s a way to do that – it’s called the Liturgy of the Hours and it is the prayer of the Church. If you have ever wanted to know more about these prayers, listen to Nick’s explanation of them then check out SQPN’s praystation portable.
To kick off our show, we have a good amount of news about sports. This weekend is Super Bowlweekend so we decided to talk a little bit about the New Orleans Saints and some of the ads that will air during the Super Bowl. Finally, Jen in Montana sent us an interesting piece of news about the top prospect of the Athletics deciding to become a priest.

During the show, we talk about how the Liturgy of the Hours is a way of adding a certain rhythm of prayer to your life and how the psalms contain the entire range of human emotions. The Vatican now his its own YouTube channel and recognizes the need to use technology to help people share their faith.
During our interview, Paul Davis tells us about his amazing story from high school to get him to where he is now. His story is filled with a message of hope and reliance on God. If you are looking for something to help you put your own life into perspective, take a listen.

It’s pro-life week and in honor of that, we have Mary Kay Culp from Kansans for Life on our show to talk about the pro-life march and what Kansans for Life does. Listen to find out more about this important week.
This week, as part of our news, we have decided to talk about our new favorite iPhone application, Words with Friends. It’s a great game where you can play over the net with other friends, either live or in taking individual turns.

As part of our interview segment, Mary Kay Culp talks with us about the Roe vs. Wade supreme court decision and how it has affected the world. Ever year, on the anniversary of that decision, a group of people march on our nation’s capital in order to show their disagreement with the court’s decision.
Looking ahead, we are in our planning process for our next few months. In that, we are hoping to put together a simulcast with the Busted Halo show. Stay tuned for a that show in the future.

Catholic Moments #135 – Mary Moore

Our guest on this week’s episode, Catholic wife and mom Mary Moore, is the author of a new book entitled Rocking the Cradle Catholic. Mary is a syndicated writer and speaker. Her column “Wholly Family” has been encouraging Catholic families in the Diocese of Phoenix for five years. Mary and her husband Mark live in Mesa, Arizona with their four children. Recent events in Haiti have many wondering what we can do? Can we take action so the world will never see large-scale tragedy and suffering again? Deacon Tom’s reflection for today is called RIPPLES. The symbol of the wine at Cana is apt: wine restores vigor to an exhausted man, warms him all through, brings color back to his face, gives him courage, softens his heart, takes away his sense of insufficiency, and sets him free…. The joy of God is a wine that changes the drab, cold, colorless, substance of human nature into the rich, crimson, warm vitality of supernatural life. It changes discouragement to hope, doubt to faith, it lights up the mind and in its light men see that the problems of the world today, which seemed insurmountable, are straws in the power of God, and in his name even a creature as little and weak as man can overcome them.

Dear Pat Robertson, I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I’m all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I’m no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth — glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven’t you seen “Crossroads”? Or “Damn Yankees”? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there’d be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox — that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it — I’m just saying: Not how I roll. You’re doing great work, Pat, and I don’t want to clip your wings — just, come on, you’re making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That’s working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract. Best, Satan
