On the show today… A LIVE recording of the Catholic Foodie Superbowl pre-game show. You don’t want to miss this!

You will get to hear my prediction of which team will be victorious (and I end up being right, ya know!). And I am joined by Adolfo Rodriguez who shares a wealth of Saints facts and Catholic tidbits. He is also an avid foodie. We just can’t seem to stop talking about food! And, for the first time ever, we actually EAT on the show!

If you missed the ustream broadcast, you can catch the recording of it on the SQPN LIve channel on Ustream. The videos are also embedded below.

Two more joy-filled aspects of this episode: Char joins me for the feedback segment, and we have LOTS of feedback to share!

It’s all here on the Catholic Foodie… Where food meets faith!

WHO DAT!

Here are some of the links we mentioned on the show:

Also, here’s a neat article on the Catholic history of the New Orleans Saints

Here’s the pic that Trese sent in of her son and the frogs he caught. Wow!

Trese also sent a link to a book that was first published in 1861. It’s called The Book of Household Management by Mrs. Isabella Beeton. You can find the audio version on Librivox.org and as a PDF here.

It’s time. Time to bring out the puppies. Why?

Since the start of our giving campaign we have asked for your support to be able to continue another year of evangelization via new media. SQPN has been able to reach tens of thousands of people thanks to the financial support and the prayers of its listeners and visitors. Countless lives have been changed over the years, and you have written us touching letters about the importance of the SQPN programs and community in your life.

Many people have already given. But not everyone. In fact, only 2% of the total amount of people we reach have reacted with a generous donation. We still need $25,000 to continue, but time is running out. Only ONE WEEK left to raise the remainder. So that’s why it’s time to bring out the puppies. They are much better at this fund raising stuff than I am.

Please give so we can continue. Don’t wait. Click here.

Thank you (also on behalf of our puppies!)

Fr. Roderick

SQPN is a Catholic non-profit organization and operates completely on donations. Help us continue our work in 2010 by becoming a SQPN Supporter! Tell the world that you value the importance of Catholic new media by displaying a web badge on your website or blog.

There are five levels, depending on the level of support that you can give SQPN:

Between $1-$249 per year: you are a valued Copper Supporter!

Between $250-$499 per year: we thank you for being a generous Bronze Supporter!

Between $500-$999 per year: you rock! You are a Silver Supporter!

Between $1,000-$4,999 per year: we are blown away by your support as a Gold Supporter!

If you donate $5,000 or more per year: words can’t express our gratitude for your help as a Platinum Supporter!

With around $25,000 left to raise to reach our goal, we only need 25 Gold supporters willing to grant us a one-time gift of $1,000.

SQPN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so your gifts are tax-deductible.

Have you ever wanted to know more about praying the psalms? It turns out that there’s a way to do that – it’s called the Liturgy of the Hours and it is the prayer of the Church. If you have ever wanted to know more about these prayers, listen to Nick’s explanation of them then check out SQPN’s praystation portable.
To kick off our show, we have a good amount of news about sports. This weekend is Super Bowlweekend so we decided to talk a little bit about the New Orleans Saints and some of the ads that will air during the Super Bowl. Finally, Jen in Montana sent us an interesting piece of news about the top prospect of the Athletics deciding to become a priest.

During the show, we talk about how the Liturgy of the Hours is a way of adding a certain rhythm of prayer to your life and how the psalms contain the entire range of human emotions. We highly suggest you take a look at this form of prayer and see if it is something that you are able to fit into your life.

Paul Davis is our featured guest this week. During the show he talks to us about his journey to making better decisions. When he was younger, Paul made a bad decision which affected the rest of his life. Want to hear more? Listen in to our episode to hear the interview.

To start off the show, we have two new lines from Steph in Wisconsin and Jessica, who left a comment on a previous episode.

In our news segment, we talk about a card trick that Paul Camarata sent us. It’s a pretty cool trick. Along with the magic trick, we talk about an article that Lisa Hendey sent us about the Pope embracing new media as a means to evangelization. The Vatican now his its own YouTube channel and recognizes the need to use technology to help people share their faith.
During our interview, Paul Davis tells us about his amazing story from high school to get him to where he is now. His story is filled with a message of hope and reliance on God. If you are looking for something to help you put your own life into perspective, take a listen.

This week, we received a lot of feedback from our listeners. To close out the show, we read some of the feedback we have received and play some audio feedback from Barb in Nebraska. She called in to tell us that she really enjoyed our Mom’s pumpkin bread recipe. Interested in getting a copy of it? Email us and let us know that you donated to SQPN and we’ll send you a copy of the recipe.

If you haven’t joined our Facebook group yet, head to InBetweenSundays.com and go to the right hand side of our page to become a fan of our podcast. If you would like to send us feedback, e-mail it to feedback@inbetweensundays.com or call us at (206) 337-7945. Lastly, if you like this podcast you can find more great free Catholic content at SQPN.com

“In Between Sundays” is podcast dedicated to today’s Christian young adults. The goal is to help you live in the world outside of church. We talk about life as a young adult and ways to grow in faith.

This week, as part of our news, we have decided to talk about our new favorite iPhone application, Words with Friends. It’s a great game where you can play over the net with other friends, either live or in taking individual turns.

As part of our interview segment, Mary Kay Culp talks with us about the Roe vs. Wade supreme court decision and how it has affected the world. Ever year, on the anniversary of that decision, a group of people march on our nation’s capital in order to show their disagreement with the court’s decision.
Looking ahead, we are in our planning process for our next few months. In that, we are hoping to put together a simulcast with the Busted Halo show. Stay tuned for a that show in the future.

Recent events in Haiti have many wondering what we can do? Can we take action so the world will never see large-scale tragedy and suffering again? Deacon Tom’s reflection for today is called RIPPLES. In addition to prayer and perhaps a financial donation to Haiti relief, Tom’s idea is a way to consider our part in building up the kingdom of God.

Avery shares ideas about making a difference in Haitian relief efforts as a teen and talks about the call to service that God gives us. Visit Catholic Relief Services to share your support.

We have a new “amazing” member of our Catholic Moments team! Meet Lisa Mladinich this week with the first of her “Amazing Minute” series.

Kids in the background and the promise of peace: it’s a tall order for a Mary Moment (and more than a little contradictory, we know), but it’s all Sarah Reinhard was able to pull together this week, inspired by the prayer card that also inspired her column this week at Catholic Exchange’s Today’s Catholic Woman.

Please consider joining us in support of the SQPN.com Giving Campaign. Your donations will help us to continue in this important evangelization work.

The symbol of the wine at Cana is apt: wine restores vigor to an exhausted man, warms him all through, brings color back to his face, gives him courage, softens his heart, takes away his sense of insufficiency, and sets him free.... The joy of God is a wine that changes the drab, cold, colorless, substance of human nature into the rich, crimson, warm vitality of supernatural life. It changes discouragement to hope, doubt to faith, it lights up the mind and in its light men see that the problems of the world today, which seemed insurmountable, are straws in the power of God, and in his name even a creature as little and weak as man can overcome them.

The SQPN weekend show! In this episode: Boxee, Zombies, the Haiti Earthquake tragedy and Pat Robertson, Farmville, SQPN Giving Campaign and more! Participants this week: Mac Barron, Father Ben Dallas, Maria Johnson, and Capt. Jeff.

Check out this great letter to the editor (Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune) regarding the Pat Robertson comments:
Dear Pat Robertson, I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks people when they are down, so I’m all over that action. But when you say that Haiti has made a pact with me, it is totally humiliating. I may be evil incarnate, but I’m no welcher. The way you put it, making a deal with me leaves folks desperate and impoverished. Sure, in the afterlife, but when I strike bargains with people, they first get something here on earth — glamour, beauty, talent, wealth, fame, glory, a golden fiddle. Those Haitians have nothing, and I mean nothing. And that was before the earthquake. Haven’t you seen “Crossroads”? Or “Damn Yankees”? If I had a thing going with Haiti, there’d be lots of banks, skyscrapers, SUVs, exclusive night clubs, Botox — that kind of thing. An 80 percent poverty rate is so not my style. Nothing against it — I’m just saying: Not how I roll. You’re doing great work, Pat, and I don’t want to clip your wings — just, come on, you’re making me look bad. And not the good kind of bad. Keep blaming God. That’s working. But leave me out of it, please. Or we may need to renegotiate your own contract. Best, Satan
